I can't scan any thing the scan beam shows but it won't scan when I got it it worked and now nothing, i have tried different USB cords and computer, still won't scan.

Windows 7, I currently have a LS4278 hooked up to my computer and it works fine, but the one in question won't work. You can't post conmments that contain an email address.
Usually you need to configure the reader to tell it what kind of barcodes you want it to read and how to interpret & output the codes to your computer (whether you need prefix or suffixes to your codes( for automation))
the user manual for the reader has some bar codes to configure the settings for the scanner.

Make sure the printercancopy (withoutcomputer).If you canmake copies,the problem maybe the computer orthe USB cable.If the printerdoes not copyalso.The problemis in thescanneror in theflat cable.
If it has a USB plug, try attaching it through a different port hub, i.e. not the usb port right next to the one that didn't work. If that doesn't work, test the usb port with something else first. If the USB port is not the problem, you may need to download a driver for the keyboard.
You have a bad electrical connection. Check the wiring harness and both sides of it's connectors for corrosion and or breakage. The connector terminals will become worn and corroded and the wiring sheaths a prone to weathering and become brittle. Replace or clean as needed.
Try purging your temp files. If it's a usb connection try a different usb port. Since it can print from scan and do a test nozzle print then it's not getting data from the pc to the printer. If a different port doesn't work either, and if purging your temp files doesn't work try it on a different computer if possible. You may need to reinstall the driver for it.
oh and make sure you don't end up with one of those 'oh duh' moments :) ... check both ends of the cable to make sure it didn't become loose or unplugged :)
