Hi ....

This printer has an ink absorber that takes in ink during the printing and print head cleaning processes. The cleaning process is necessary in order to keep the print head nozzles from becoming clogged. Over the life of the printer, the amount of ink that the ink absorber has absorbed is calculated by the printer. Eventually, after substantial use, the printer will enter an error condition when the ink absorber is nearly full. At this point, printing is still possible by pressing the <Resume> button on the printer. To protect the printer from damage, you will not be able to print at all once the ink absorber is full.
Canon recommends having the printer serviced before the absorber becomes full. We are aware that there are many "do-it-yourself" Web sites that offer instructions for making this repair. Replacing the ink absorber is a complicated and potentially messy procedure. Even if the ink absorber is successfully changed, the ink absorber counter must be reset. Be aware that if you attempt this procedure, it is at your own risk.

Please vote if this helps .... Cheers :)

SOURCE: how to reset waste ink absorber full ip3300 warning?

I have the same problem, but Jet Tec waste inks. When I first replaced black (pgi 5bk)-don't forget to place the small chip from the original cartridge to replacement; it worked fine. But now, it has a lot of problems because this **** printer from canon only want original inks (and the original are tooooooooo expensive). I'll never bought anything else from canon.

SOURCE: ink absorber full

This is a very common problems with canon printers. They are set for a certain number of prints and they need the ink absorber serviced. Now along with resetting the printer its best to replace the absorber. Here is link to site that has reset instructions.

Canon ip 4500 ink absorber problem

This mayclear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printerwhere the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the inkcartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place itinside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of theprinter to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissuea few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

INK ABSORBER FULL Printer model - pixma ip4500 Please solve my problem

This is from the Canon web site.
Before the ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon Service representative. (You will need to replace a particular part of the printer.)
i_important.gif Important
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the ink absorber becomes completely full, printing cannot be performed until the ink absorber is replaced.

There are some links on how to clean it yourself or to bypass the alarms on this site. Just do a search for ink absorber and you should find them. I wouldn't try this unless you are mechanically inclined.

How do I clean the ink absorber from a Canon Pixma iP4500 printer

First off, this is a VERY messy job. It likely requires full disassembly to chassis of the printer. The waste ink pad likely spans the entire foot print of the printer and is many pads thick, at least it does on other similar models. When we clean these, at a Cartridge World store, we rinse the pads, which are special dense felt material and then centrifuge the water and ink out, which can take multiple cycles. Low end ink printers generally do have have service manual readily available to aid in disassembly so you are on your own.

It is doable but be aware of what came from where and in which order.

Here are the instruction for how to reset the counter. Warning: Resetting the counter without cleaning the pads WILL result in waste ink overflowing out of your printer and onto whatever the printer is on, eventually.

This error : the ink absorber is full.

You do need a service center to repair that for you. The ink absorber is underneath the printer and covers the whole bottom of the printer. If you just do a reset it will soon overflow and ruin the printer. You need a shop to be able to enter the service mode and reset the counter after the absorbers are replaced.

You can probably do this once as the ink absorber will start to expel in onto the place where printer is on.
1. Turn off printer.
2. retaining button Resume/Cancel press button POWER - indicator it will catch fire by green color.
3. let go button Resume/Cancel, continuing to retain POWER.
4. press button Resume/Cancel of 2 times, retaining POWER, after which let go all buttons.
5. when indicator will be lit BY GREEN - press button Resume/Cancel of 4 times!!!
6. turn off printer by button POWER.

Waste ink tank nearly full

This is not an easy job to perform but you have little choice unless you want to buy a new printer.
Glued to the top of the waste tank is a piece of foam. It is exactly the same type used to filter the air in a portable air conditioner.
US cost about $2.00. You need t replace this or ink will end up spilling into the printer. Place a rag around the tank to catch overflow. You can use a paper towel or rag to slowly push it into the tank & absorb the ink. Please go slow, the ink is thicker than fresh ink & it will not come out easily. If you can get a syringe & use it to pull ink out you'll save a ton of time. Than you can use a rag to wipe out the rest of the ink. Use alcohol to wipe the top inside of tank.
Than cut a piece of foam & super clue one side to the tank. Keep it flush with the top of the tank. (All done).
