If you have the sewing machine manufacturers name, you could do a web search? See if the site has a repair manual or repair info. I don't know about free, if you order a manual?
I'm sorry about this one but I usually have to pay for the service manuals. Many times I'm successful at getting User's Manuals for free but not service manuals.
Go to www.brother-usa.com and under support, click on home sewing and select your model on a drop down menu, you can download your manual for free. I don't know what you were looking at but they do give you a free download. Look at all of the site and you will see it.
