The max for your system is 512MB. You have two memory slots and one has a 128MB chip so if you want 512MB, you need two 256MB chips and throw away the 128MB.
At Newegg, a 256MB chip is $42+ shipping of $1. I'd consider getting a new computer instead.
I don't think memory upgrade will tax your system cooling.

go buy one. I don't mean to sound like an @ss, but really. Google Video card and your motherboard. It will tell you what you can get, and then go to futur shop or something and get one. Or buy one off E-Bay.

So you bought an XFX GeForce 256MB video card. You're board has 1 free AGP 8x video slot & 3 PCI (White opened slots).
You mention there is not slot for the new card. (What type of video card did you buy)? PCI-E, AGP or PCI?
The only slot you're board does not have is a PCI-Express.
Look in you're manual on page 1-7 for the location of the AGP video card slot.
If you bought the wrong card, exchange it for an AGP 8x or PCI.
