I did a teardown and did not pay enough attention to where this little L Shaped wire with a spring end came from...I'm pretty sure it has much to do with the tension dial and threading....would just love to see a diagram!

Sorry but there is no way to explain how to re-assemble the tension mech on here, you need to be actually shown or have someone do it for you. It is very fiddly and needs to be exact, can I suggest you get in touch with a sewing machine tech who(at cost) will sort you out.
Sorry I cannot be of any further help.

The tensions must match ie. top tension =bottom tension. If the material is not sewn together tightly, that means the tensions are mismatched. Sewing machines will sew whenever the top and bottom tensions are equal (be it very tight or very loose).
We usually advise the customer to not touch the bobbin case tension. When that is not changed, all tension adjustments can be made from the top tension above the needle.
It appears that one of the two tensions (top or bottom) is much tighter then the other. I would reset the tensions to how they came, if you are unfamiliar with sewing machines this may take a little bit of experimenting until you get it back to a standard quality stitch.
The other option would be bring it to a sewing tech. A good mechanic should be able to adjust the machine and your tensions to your fabric (and recommend needle size for your thread/materials) in about an hour.

My stitch is good, upper and lower correct, but it will sew along and skip stitches. What do I need to do?, am good at repairing things on it all these years, I havent used it a lot the last few years, but it has started this skipping problem.

Hi Kate,
I'm having similar problem of assembling the tension unit, and am wondering if you manage to get it fix and if you could share how it was done, as most machines have similar tension unit. Thanks! Lak
