The power transformer is bad. Part # L07-2485-05 it costs about $ 85 bucks to replace it. It is the big one.

It could be one of your speakers wires are touching together. thats what mine was doing when i found that was the problem. it has a protecter on that was shut off the system.

Register and download the manual for free at retrevo.com

Page 21 descriebs the microprocessor reset for USA & Canada; or other countries.

Generally speaking, an amp protects itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

My kenwood av surround receiver vr-209 is turning on then turning off right away. what could be wrong and how do you fix it?

Disconnect all speakers at the receiver, then turn it on. If it still cuts out, it's a power supply, capacitor, or transister issue and will need to be serviced. If it stays on, re connect speakers one by one and turn the receiver back on until you find the problem wire or speaker. Once you find the wire or speaker that's causing the problem, disconnect the speaker wire at the speaker and turn it back on again. (Make sure wires are separated) if it still cuts out, check the entire wire or replace it. if it stays on, check the speaker with a meter for a short. If your not comfortable with doing that, any electronics shop will generally do it for you for free. This is the most common problem among all brands of receivers. Wires get crossed and short, then short the power supply. Hope this helps. If you need further help troubleshooting, post a comment and I will be glad to help.

Kenwood VR-209 Still does not work after the speakers are unplugged.

I have a VR205 with the same problem. I can make it stay on by doing this: as soon as the display lights up turn off the power and then turn it back on quickly. Do this 3 or 4 times. Mine usually stays on after this....the relays latch and all is well I suspect one of the step-start relays as I have checked everything else out and all is in order and the receiver works fine. I would love to find a shop manual for this series of receivers. Anyone know where such an animal exists?

Remote dosen't work, trying to code my Sony RM-V302

there's a good chance it's the receiver and not the remote. Just fixed mine this afternoon with help from this blog.

this worked on my kenwood vr-209. 10 others fixed their kenwood as well from the posts.
