If you have backed up your contacts somewhere like Gmail, you can directly recover your contacts from the backup. However, if you don't have done this before, you may probably need a third-party software to recover contacts from Android. My friends recommend Jihosoft Android Phone Recovery

copy the contacts on the sim card to a sd card in the phone. If you don't have one, get one and put it in the phone. Set up the memory in the phone to both sim and memory card. Copy the contacts onto the memory card. Remove the memory card and then go about deleting the contact list in the phone. Put the memory card back in the phone and set the memory in the phone touse the memory card only...not the sim. You're done.
If you have a Google Android phone (meaning that it have playstore and needs a google ID) then by just signing in you should be able to get all of your contacts back. This of course, if you had saved your contacts under google. If you saved it under phone, then all of your contacts are deleted. Also, if you have a GSM phone, check your SIM card, maybe you have some of your contacts in the SIM card.
Try this:
A. Tap contacts or people, depend on the firmware that you have. Make sure that is in the regular contacts list, not favourites, not groups. Tap the menu icon in your phone, choose import/export contact, choose Import from SIM card. This will drag your contacts from the SIM card to the phone.
B. Tap contacts, tap menu icon, tap Contact to display and choose SIM card. This will display the contacts that are in the SIM card.
In the future, make sure that all contacts are saved under google and that you allow Google to back up and restore your data. That way whenever you need to restore, you will never loose your contacts again.
Unfortunately this depends on how you stored the contacts and where you deleted them from. Contacts can be stored on the SIM card or directly in the phones memory. You can also move and copy the contacts both ways. If you go into your address book, and select the menu option (typically the top left button), you should see something about SIM management. This option will allow you to try and retrieve what contacts you may have on the SIM card. Hopefully all you did was delete the contacts on the phone itself, and you still of most of them on the SIM.
One entry is most likely sim card and other is synched from outlook. You can usually chose contacts to display and select one or the other in contact settings.

Are the contacts in phone memory or in sim memory?? If in phone memory, There's no problem. Switch on the phone and manully delete all contacts. There's no need of the sim to be inserted. If the contacts are in sim memory then insert the sim. Switch the phone on, and scroll contacts. Chek and find the no.s which have the sim image, it will surely be a sim contact. Then delete it. If you are fearing that your contacts ( if in sim memory ) will be deleted and it is important then first switch on the phone with sim. Note down all sim contacts, after that delete. Then if you give your sister another phone which she likes, switch on the phone and then install all sim contacts which you earlier noted down.
most of the SE phone have two types of contact saving
1- in phone memory
2- in SIM card memory
if u have contacts saved in SIM memory but u r using
phonebook memory then it is default
if u save any contact in phone memory u have an option too
to copy it to SIM memory
for deleting a contact it will behave like this:
for example, u have a contact saved in phone memory
as well as in SIM memory
if u delete this contact, then it will be deleted from phone
memory but not from SIM memory
and when u are called from same number
(which is not present in Phone memory but is in SIM)
it displays the name again
