That is the brake. Your clutch maybe wearing out. Or the belt maybe slipping because the rollers for the motor maybe wearing out.

SOURCE: End of spin cycle on washer

I just made this repair and was able to clean lining and drum and coat with silicone spray, did not have tool for brake spring. the spring and gravity took care of removal (BE CAREFUL), and for re-installation I used longer screws of same thread size and pitch(10-24x1-1/2",I believe) and was able to pull brake drum back into place. suggest pulling from 3 screws evenly spaced around drum,a little at a time(2-3 turns each). on my machine, the extra length of screw was on no concern, but check yours. after tightening, you can re-install origional screws one at a time, they may be better suited for it(locking head). If you have the machine leaning on it's side as I did, it will help to remove front panel and support the wash tub on the side to keep it from sliding off center, I used a wad of rags. It works fine, if it will last(silicone). If parts and money are not an issue, I would probably use new stuff.GOOD LUCK

SOURCE: loud screeching noise when spin cycle is on

Good morning! Possibly the noise was due to improper placement of load into the spinner which should be within its capacity load. best regards.

SOURCE: loud screeching noise when the wash and spin cycle ends

You either have something caught between the tub and basket or a bearing bad.

I have a Maytag washer model MAV298DAWW. My clothes are still wet after it spins, and it makes a clunk/screech noise at the end of the spin cycle

It could be the clutch if you change it out be very careful. When you remove the cover screws that brake spring hold 500 pound of tension and it will knock your block off.

I own a Kenmore washer Model 110.22722100. The last couple of weeks, it leaves the clothes wet. It drains like it is supposed to and spins. What is causing this to happen?

If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.
Here is the part you will need.

Clothes are sill soaking wet after sin cycle

When the clothes are wet at the end of a cycle, check these:

Motor coupler
Spin cycle
Siphoning
Water-inlet valve
Motor coupler To test the motor coupler, re-start the washer in its spin cycle. Let the machine run for a minute, and then open the lid and notice whether the tub is spinning:

  • If it's spinning when you lift the lid, the coupler is fine.

  • If it isn't spinning--and your machine was produced by Whirlpool®--you may have a broken coupler. Many Whirlpool-made washers use a small, relatively inexpensive device called a motor coupling. This plastic-and-rubber component is mounted to the shaft of the motor on one side, and to the transmission on the other. Over time, the coupler wears out and fails. When that happens, you need to replace it completely.

Spin cycle If the washer doesn't reach its proper spin speed, the clothes may be too wet at the end of a cycle. Check to be sure the load is properly balanced and run a spin cycle again. If the clothes are still wet, you may have a worn or loose belt (Maytag®), a worn clutch (GE®/Hotpoint®), or a worn motor pulley or tub bearing. Replace the applicable component.

Alternatively, there could be clothes caught between the inner and outer tubs. Read the "It spins but won't pump" section of the "It won't drain" section. Also, there could be other things that cause friction on the drive train. Seek the assistance of a qualified appliance repair technician.

Siphoning If the water that pumps from the machine goes right back into the machine after the spin cycle, it may be because your washer is siphoning the water from a laundry tub with a slow drain, back into the washer. Try to improve the draining of the laundry tub. (Is there something stuck in the drain?) Also, be sure the drain hose doesn't reach more than about 4 inches into the laundry tub. If it does, cut off the excess.

Water-inlet valve Water-inlet valves eventually fail. One problem that may develop with a water-inlet valve is that it can no longer completely shut off when the electricity is turned off to it. Then, the valve may leak and drip water into the clothes tub--you may notice that your washer has water in it when you haven't used it for a few days. To fix this, replace the valve.

Wet clothes after final spin cycle

There are two speed (or three) on most washer motors and what happens is that a motor speed will stop functioning--it will wash the clothes, but the high speed will not function. This also could be the controller, but more likely it is centered at the motor. It the motor is functioning, it coulfd be in the transmission of the machine--which may be the problenm since you heard a loud noise. I am not familiar with your machine, there could be an electronic switch for the transmission to go into high speed as well that has gone bad. I wish I had more direct knowledge of your machine.

Excessive wobble

If there's a loud thumping noise during the spin cycle, the load of clothes has probably gotten unbalanced. Open the lid, redistribute the clothes in the washer, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary.
