Start by replacing the charger, you may also be able to get a replacement battery but I would start with the charger

I was reading a novel on my kindle when the screen froze up. I tried to reboot by holding the off button for one minute, to no avail. What do I do now?

Suggest to be sure your Kindle is charged up. There are several generations of these devices. Search for reboot procedure online for example ... "reboot kindle 3rd generation".

HOW DO I UNDER FREZZER MY KINDLE

Hold the power switch for 20 seconds. Slide the power switch and hold it in place for 20 to 30 seconds before releasing it.
  • You need to physically hold the power switch in its off position for this long. Doing so tells your device to "reboot," in essence, instead of merely shutting down.
  • The reboot screen should appear as soon as you release the power switch.

Give the Kindle time to reboot. The Kindle will reboot within a minute or two. Be patient and give your device ample time to finish its reset.
  • There is some possibility that the Kindle will freeze as it reboots. This may be the case if your Kindle stays frozen on the reboot screen for more than ten minutes.
Charge the Kindle. If the device freezes during the reboot or does not respond to the reset at all, plug the charger in and allow your Kindle to charge for 30 minutes or more.
  • Make sure that your Kindle has enough time to complete a full charge.

Hold the power switch down again. After you finish charging the Kindle, slide the power switch and hold it down for another 20 seconds.
  • The reboot screen should appear again. Give the device a minute or two to reboot before checking it again. This should complete the reset.

My kindle only goes to half battery and it keeps makeing me restart it

Could be it needs to be reset. With Kindle turned off, push power button and hold for 15 seconds. This will reboot it to its default settings and usually fixes problems. If it doesn't help, check to make sure the charging cord doesn't have a short it it. You can check it by plugging it into the kindle and watch the charging icon on top right. If it it shows no charging while wiggling the cord around then the cord could be bad. If not you would need to replace the battery.

Kindle does not charge properly

Let's try to reset the charger system.
Step 1: Unplug from the charger, press and hold the Power button for 30 seconds
Step 2: Plug into the charger. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds
Step 3: Let charge for 12 hours
Step 4: Unplug form the Charger, run the Kindle until totally dead.
Step 5: When DEAD. Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
Step 6: Plug into the charger, let charge normally
If this does not reset the charging system you have either a faulty Kindle or a faulty charger, contact Amazon for replacement.

When I picked up my Kindle to read it today, the screen was on and frozen. I tried to turn the page and nothing happened. I tried turning it on and off and nothing happened. My husband held the power...

Your husband switched the device off. If you give the power switch a short nudge only, it goes in and out of "stand-by" mode, it is not really switched off.

Try to slide and hold the power switch again, until after the power light blinks three times. Should happe after ~5 seconds of holding. The Kindle should restart now --- takes about a minute, but you will see a progress bar to keep you happy during the delay.

Hi there, My screen on my kindle is frozen. Please help! Thanks Sara

Make sure the device is charged and then slide and hold the on switch for several seconds, the power LED behind the switch will blink three times to indicate it got the message. This will switch the kindle off (not just put it to stand-by as with a short flip of the switch).
If it was off already, or after the above procedure, the same slide-and-hold until after blinking will switch it on again (this may take like a minute or so for reboot, you will see a progress indicator on screen).

If the software just hung and there is no electrical or mechanical defect, the kindle should be ready again.
