How do I leave a message for my answering machine

"The answering machine is off. Please leave a message" (sic) This doesn't make sense.... how can one leave a message if the answering machine is OFF! Unless it goes to a voicemail etc? It's just not possible?

I suggest that you use your manual, and reset up your system again, perform a Factory Reset and then set up what you need to do again, this will clear any erroneous data that maybe causing any problems.

Whats seems to be happening is that the default "Voice" is being activated instead of the recorded message? I think you need to do it again.

After you have done this, record your message and set the answering machine to ON. Then test it from another phone.

NOTE sometimes with answering machines, if they ring more than a certain number of times, without being answered, the AP may switch OFF, ON or indeed do "Other" functions" that may be assigned, so ensure that this "Feature' isn't active or enabled or whatever.

It may be similar to the problem I had on wireless home phone with answering machine not taking messages when had the answering machine set to 12 rings before answering. Found the sim card (my wireless system) auto response would answer first. Fixed it by reducing time to 6 rings and answering machine now comes on first.

Make sure you have enough memory left. Delete all old messages first.

The answering machine is most likely referring to the other mail boxes.
if a caller presses 1 or 2 they record in the other mail boxes.On the machine you will see an envelope with a 1 or a 2 next to the envelope.
Press and hold one of these mail boxes and when the messages are played press del to delete each message as it plays. Do this for each mail box.
Have this answering machine and have experienced this problem.

Well, your machine might be broken, or you haven't set the little switch on the unit to ANS. The switch is on the side of the machine where the cables come out. But here are the instructions from the manual:

Recording Outgoing Messages:

Your answering machine has a built-in outgoing message, "Hello, please leave a message after the tone." You can use this message or record your own.

1. Hold the ANNC/DAY/<<, and speak clearly into the microphone, no more than 10 inches away.

2. Release the ANNC/DAY/<< when you finish. Your answering machine beeps and automatically plays back your recorded message.

*Your outgoing message must be between one and 60 seconds.

*If you record your won message but wish to revert to the pre-recorded message, press DELETE during playback of your outgoing message.

I have model no. 1188 bellsouth digital answering machine. If you have to leave a message, the message I recorded is no longer there, there is a generic message saying please record your message. How do I go back and record my voice with my message. I cannot find my original manual.

If you are on (Rogers) phone via cable, this model of answering machine is not compatible. I'd love to hear a work-around.
