Not the white spot issue. Just replaced the lamp with a high-quality Phillips OEM lamp. Old lamp was a cheap substitute that was dim and failing. Also cleaned the mirror and lens of dust. The rest of the picture looks great. No white "spots". Just the light halo along the bottom of the display. Mostly noticeable with dark scenes or when screen is not showing an image but the TV lamp is on.

I have the same TV, and I was getting the black spots on my screen as well. It is dust settling on the bottom mirror. Yoiu can call Mitsubishi and spend 150-200 on getting it cleaned, or you can do like I did and take the front panel off and the 10 screws around the edge on the back of the black plastic border around the screen. Then lift up gently and have someone hold the screen for you and gently dust the bottom mirror. I did this by myself, but it would be wise to have 2 people do it.

those are going to be dust spots on the LCD panels internal to the optical engine. i suggest that you take the screen off and take off the panel i nthe middle of the tv with 2 screws in it and there will be an area that has 3 metal fins covering thin orange ribbon cables. the 3 square objects at the end of those ribbon cables will be the LCD panels spray wiht air compressor unitl clean and that should greatly help your problem.

I expect the answer to your question is YES! The convergence amplifiers are a common problem in many projection sets. When you search for the replacements you should find that the originals have been superceded by improved parts. Also be aware that when these parts fail, they will usually damage a resistor in the convergence yoke return path. The resistor must be replaced with one of the correct value or the convergence, though responsive, will be out of range.
If you find my suggestions to be helpful, please share with us some details so that others may benefit from knowing the whole story. Thank you!
