The heater will burn the fumes off , how long it will take I don't know.,can you put it out side and let it run till the smell goes, never spray any thing on the heater elements you could have a fire.

You would have to contact the makers of the heater to give you a clear answer on that , most heaters smell when first put on from new and you would have to burn this off first ,
If you have recently painted or varnished something then just air out the house. The fumes can react w/ the heat of the dryer to create this smell. It smells different than the actual fumes, but still like some sort of solvent.

You first thought was probably the correct one...the fumes from the new paint may take a few days to disspate enough not to react with the heat of the dryer...I would give it a few dyas to clear before looking any further...
if you are driving in the open and you have your hood down it would be unlikely for fumes to come out and stay in the car. if your hood is up check your exhaust pipes
your vehicle has a cabin air filter that needs replaced. the smell is going to be from the cabin air filter needing replaced as well as the transmission line leak. however your concern will be fixed with the cabin air filter.
