SOURCE: ignition switch does not turn on my 2001 c320

It is possible the immobilizer ring is defective(thid ring reads the rolling and number codes form the key. Does your central locking work and does the l.e.d. illuminate when the central locking buttons are pushed. The batteries may be weak and if they are they would have to be replaced and the resynchronized. The resynch procedure is probably in your owners manual. The e.i.s. (switch) is a control module and a complicated replacement procedure- it also takes a good 10 days to get parts because they have to reload it with a special key that made for your vehicle only. Try cleaning the lens on the key. It would also be a good idea to have the e.i.s. codes pulled at a dealer or equivalent. if problem persists. If the car will not start. try disconnecting the battery and wait approx. 15 min. sometimes that will give you a couple of starts unless it is just a software issue. I believe after so many starts these switches have to be replaced because the codes are now illogical; basically they do not reset and go back to zero.

SOURCE: 1999 mercedez benz convertible will not start, door open with key, ignition will not turn over, light and radio works, thought it was batteries in key and change batteries, know key cannot open car do

!st by changing your remote batteries you need to resynchronize your key. I believe you place it in the ignition turn and then remove and press your unlock button. The procedure will be in you manual. It almost sounds to me that the linkage is out on your trans and the car is not all the way in park. Look under neath and see if your shift rod is dangling from your trans. Next if it is not try starting the car in neutral. A common failure for that era is the shift box which allows the vehicle to start. Another problem could be is that your parked on a hill and steering son't come unlocked if this is the case crank on your wheel hard to allow key to turn. If all else fails call M.B. roadside it should be free

Bad ignition switch

I had the same thing happen to me with my 2002 Sable GS. Drove it home from work about 35 miles and shut it off. % hours later needed to run some errands and the car did nothing, did not start and there was no clicking. I cleaned my battery terminals ( the were dirty and dark colored but not your typical battery corrosion .. white chalky looking) and placed a battery charger on it and it started. I hope this helps someone.

Sounds like the electrical part of the ignition switch, not the lock cylinder that needs replacing.
Possible also that cutting that wire to the security module immobilized it.

my uncle had an older chevy pickup once that had a simaller problem. with his it would start and drive fine but once it was warmed up and shut off it would not start again untill it cooled down again. his problem turned out to be a loose wire on the bottom of the block that coneccted to the starter i beleive so check that before buying a new starter because from the sound of it you may have the same issue caused by the degreaser

Van took a few tries to start. Then once off nothing worked.

Might be time for a tune up?

Does your car have a anti-theft system that uses a resistor in the key? I have had several instances when I tried to start the my '95 GM auto, runs perfect normally, but nothing. I traced it back to the key. Probably not always put in correctly.

Check and make sure you are getting power to the ignition switch and to the stator wire on the starter. Turn the key on and and measure the volts going to the starter on both wires. You should a atleast 12 volts going to the stator wire and to the main wire from the battery. If you are not getting power there it could be a fuseable link in the power wire from the ignition. I noticed that you replaced the ignition switch make sure the rod from the key switch has not come out of the switch.

2002 Pontiac Grand prix wont start; unable to remove key

On many cars, if the battery is dead, it locks the key in the ignition. Put a battery charger on the car or replace the battery and give it a shot.

Good luck.

Will not start

Hi, im sensing a problem with the ignition switch itself. i would check the wires leading to the switch and make sure they are nice and tight. if the wires are ok, the switch itself may need to be replaced.

Electrical problem

there is a short on the car electric circuits, or inside the ignition block. If I was in your shoes I would start by replacing the ignition block. This can probably fix it. If it doesn't, you should check the ignition circuit backward to find the short.
