How to see that the compressor of the fridge is working or not

Hi,

Please ensure that you're using a compressor that is compatible with your fridge. You can compare your newer compressor to the one that was originally installed to your fridge. If the newer part number is different from that of your older compressor, then you might want to swap it for the exact model of your old compressor.

Otherwise, you could use a handyman from Angi or Home Depot in order to overcome the issue.

All right, what I've got here is a fridge with a compressor that won't start ... So it doesn't fall on anything. ..... I have a question my compressor will turn on but I have to have it all the way up so if I put a water bottle in it just freezes ...

1 this is not compressor because it's starting and it's not starting realy because is part of compressor.
2 You my have problem mainboard or temperature sensor name of part thermistor work like(thermostat) cost less then mainboard

If it has fan to deliver cold air, and it is not working, cold air is stuck on the begining. So your fan could be dead. And I suppose, that compressor is running all the time. Even compressor could stert freezing if fan does not deliver cold air in fridge. The other option is, that there is not enough gas in the compressor. In this case compressor vould not be freezing, but line, going out of compressor has to be hot, if it is not, there is no gas.

If you cant hear the compressor running and he fan under the fridge and in the freezer compartment are not running. The problem would be your defrost timer has quit on the defrost mode. Your defrost timer should be located in the fridge side behind the back plastic liner or if your controls and light are in the center top it will be there. The timer is plastic with a metal motor on one side. There is a shaft in the center that a flatblade screw driver will fit in turn it and you will hear audible clicks and the fans and compressor should kick in. I hope this helps. If the fans are working but the compressor is not the compressor is bad or the start relay on the compressor may be bad it is located under a plastic cap on the compressor and is about the size of a nickle and is connected to one of the 3 prongs coming out of the compressor. Remember to always unplug the fridge before working on it. good luck

Most side by side units have 2 compressor units. If you listen for it, you should be able to hear 2 compressors with slightly different pitches, operating at different times, or sometimes at the same time. If you never hear the fridge side compressor turn on, a sensor or the compressor is probably bad, if you never hear the fridge side turn off, the temp sensor is bad. If it has ever, or is leaking in the back, then there is a puncture in the cooling system, and the fridge will not be able to be cooled. If you can pull the fridge out and examine the tubes or unplug it for about 10 minutes and plug it back in to observe compressor activity and any small leaks, it would give a more definite answer to the problem. A mechanic will most likely be necessary.

unplug the fridge,remove the electrical cover on the compressor to see if any wires are burnt off.you may have a defective start relay,wire off or compressor seized,that age not cost wise to replace compressor

these are 2 different things.check the light switch. also check cold-control, defrost timer, relay on compressor.

Is the brand name of the compressor Tecumseh?? How old is this fridge??
