How do I hard reset the printer back to factory settings?

Received error code 5040. Tried suggested method of reset, but didn't work.

If you have the install disc, click start, control panel,uninstall a program , find and uninstall the printer, insert install disc and follow instructions.

Sir,
I think there is a piece of torn paper lodged inside due to carriage is stuck, try to do manually moving the carriage and also blow some compressed air around hoping to clear any foreign objects. Opened top manually. Moved print heads to left. About one inch from the right wall on the floor of printer are two soft spongy rectangular pads sitting in two abutting small trays. With the end of a ballpoint pen, pulled the right tray toward the front of the printer and the whole assembly snapped into place.

Canon USA's support site directs you to:

*WARNING* Turning off the printer will erase faxes that are in memory.

1) turn off the printer
2) disconnect the power cord from the plug
3) [wait a half a minute]
4) plug printer back in
5) Turn printer back on

Try this procedure twice. If it doesn't work for you, you'll have to contact Canon USA for service.

*Other basic troubleshooting you can try: Make sure the printer has paper. Make sure there's no paper jam. Always turn the printer on and off with the switch on the printer, not on the power strip.

Do a hard reset to this set, and check. There are two methods to reset TVs. The first is simple to do; a Hard Reset. The other is somewhat skilled; is a Factory Reset (System Reset). To make it a hard reset, just unplug the TV from AC mains wall socket, and re-plug it back after 15 minutes or so. If you do this by overnight is better. This procedure will make it a hard reset. Mitsubishi WD-65833: Reset system on my WD65833 after replacing the DMD chip. Now get a flashing code of 1-2. Any suggestions?
You are not the first person I have seen who replaced the display chip and had fubar after--1,2 is no error found.

You might want to do a little more research: Mitsubishi when changing the optical engine has a procedure so the engine can communicate with the digital circuit in the set--opps!

By the way the reset on the front is only a boot up for the set--set also has a hidden option menu for a hard reset of the entire set to factory defaults.

This 2 methods you have made will not work, somebody please correct me if i am wrong but this is an S40 series phone which is * 3 call key hard reset method is not effective.

to be able to reset your phone, go to settings > reset factory settings then it will ask for the code, enter 12345 to be said as the default code or enter the desire codes of yours if your replaced it before.

Please be reminded that all data will be erased after the process and it will set back to original settings.


Hoping this method will work, please let me know if something is going wrong.

if you are having software problems here is a guide i prepared to fix them.
There are 3 methods to format the phone 
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT: back up your phone and memory card first! ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

First: if the phone menus work there is a; go to menu -> tools -> settings -> general -> factory restore. note: the defualt code is 12345 
Seconed method requires you to enter these into the dial number area. Nokia Code : *#7370# : NOKIA Format phone (Soft Reset)
Nokia Code : *#7780# : NOKIA Factory Reset (Hard Reset)
Found these in the N95USERS fourm. Note: the defualt code is 12345


Third: is a button combination the needs to be done during the phone powering on 
Hold down. 3, * and Green Call button While holding this combination press the power button once to start the phone Note: this does not require any codes; if this works the phone will prompt you to be set up again

None of these methods format the memory card 
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IMPORTANT: back up your phone and memory card first! ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

There are two methods to format the memory card 
First: Go to menu -> tools -> utillites -> memory -> options -> format mass storage 
Seconed: Connect your phone to your PC via the supplied USB cable. Then select Mass Storage mode on the phone. Once you PC has installed the Mass Storage device you can format the card from My Computer. Note: assuming Microsoft Windows XP or VISTA. 

 if none of these methods help your phone is fualty and will require to be reatuned to nokia or taken to a local phone tech for repair
