Sediment in my electric tea kettle

How do I get rid of the sediment in my month old tea kettle?

  • Anonymous Mar 17, 2009

I have the same problem .. except even though the new kettle does have a filter (why I switched to it from my old electric whistling kettle with no filter) the kettle sides are completely white and the element is partially white. The kettle itself is black so you can really see it and it is effecting the "windows" on the side that show how much water is in the kettle. Makes it hard to see how much water is in it without opening the top each time. Even though it seems the filter catches most of it, sometimes one or two escapes and I don't want to drink that as I am cautious what goes into my body and is filtered by my kidney because this is my new kidney (transplant). I even use a water filter on my tap and still have this problem. I live in an apartment so I can't install a water softener (too expensive anyway) but I wonder if this only happens with "hard water" ??

What is the best way to clean the kettle out .. vinegar? CLR? baby brush? What?

It is very hard to get rid off ass the sediment comes from the tap water untill you boil the water you dont see this sediment and take it for granted that the water is clean but as soon as you put it in a electric kettle this sediment builds up on the element then it brakes off and floats around in the kettle most new kettles have a filter near the spout so when you pour the water out it traps it in the filter then this can be removed and cleaned but the sediment floating in the kettle is hard to get out you can clean the element and descale it and then just keep pouring water in and out of kettle till its all out but it will soon build up again there are two ways to stop sediment one is filter all the water before putting in kettle but this can be slow process so not worth doing or the best sollution is buy a kettle that has a filter by the spout of the kettle and clean this regularly hope this is some help to you............................................

I have noticed that when you pour the water out of the kettle as soon as it is boiled without letting the water settle first, it creates sediment. I have experimented with this numerous times. Now, I wait a couple of minutes after the water is boiled and has stopped bubbling before I pour.

What I do to remove the sediment is really easy: Fill up the kettle, add about a quarter cup (don't need more) of lemon juice. Boil the water. Wait 2 minutes after water has stopped bubbling. Fill kettle with water. Re-boil. wait 2 minutes after water has stopped bubbling. Pour out, refill. You can drink the next one.

Black & Decker electric tea kettle leaks.

CALL Black & Decker Customer Service at 1-800-231-9786 and they will replace the unit. They will ask for the model number CK1500R from the bottom of the base and the number on the prong of the plug, mine was 626XO. They will ask you to keep the old one until you receive a letter from them about what to do with the old kettle and the new one in a separate box. All free. Cool.
