There might be fuel in the filter housing because it's trying to get through the screen. Clean the screen and replace the fuel filter and you should be good to go.

you can flush or by removing the pan, on the side of transmission. it has no filter,per se, it was what we call filter screen. you don't need to replace the filter, simply clean it.

The 2004 CRV doesn't have a stand alone in line fuel filter, most manufacturers have gone away from that, the filtering is done by the fine mesh nylon strainer screen which serves the same purpose of filtering the fuel, this screen is located at the inlet to the electric fuel pump, the fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank. The screen is replaceable, it cost less than $10.00. Here is a picture of the part.

it probably dont have an externall filter. and only a screen inside.dont mess with the screen they never need service. if the screen were plugged it woild be because the transmission failed.

If it is an automatic it will. If it is a stick shift no. If the filter is metal it can be soaked in solvent and blowed out with an air gun, but they arent that expensive and most come with a new pan gasket which you will need anyway, you are better off just to get the filter kit. If it has a cloth, foam, or paper type element, then no they cant be reused if dirty. As far as determining whether it is a screen or filter, it depends on the manufacturer of the filter assembly. Has anyone changed it before u got the car?

The wire mesh or screen side should be facing up. The screen is there as a reinforcement to stop the filter material from bowing-in from air pressure and debris when the car is moving.
