The date and time (and a lot more) are stored with every picture in its metadata. Just about any photo viewing program can show you this data. If you want the date printed, please consult the documentation for whatever program you're using to print your pictures. Depending on the program and printer, you may print the date on the image, in the margins, or on the back.
Follow this procedure to set the current date and time. 1. Open all three one-touch speed dialing panels. 2. Press [Data Registration] 3. Press [up arrow] or [down arrow] until <TIMER SETTINGS> appears, then press [Set] 4. Press [up arrow] or [down arrow] until <1.DATE/TIME SETTING> appears, then press [Set] 5. Register the current date and time using the numeric keys. Use 24-hour notation to enter the time (eg. 1:00pm as 13:00) You can also press [>] or [<] to move the cursor without changing a number entry. To restore the previous entry, press (c) (clear) 6. Press [Set] the message<DATA ENTRY OK> appears on the screen for a few seconds. 7. Press [STOP] to return to the Standby Mode.
Many digital cameras have a special settings to allow the date to appear on the pictures. As a general rule, if the date is printed on the playback of the picture, then it will appear on the print. There seems to me to be no reason that if the recorded picture, then it should print, unless it is too far to the right or the bottom, then it may be off the picture because of cropping.
As long as the current date and time are set correctly, the camera will always store the date with the picture. If you want to print the date with the picture, please refer to the documentation for whatever program you're using for instructions.
The date usually only appears on the front. However, most retail photo labs (i.e. walmart) can add custom backprinting to your photos. You can usually only add one line of text for entire order and custom pricing would probably make this a little bit expensive. On that note, the date you have your film developed/printed is usually printed on the back of each print for free, as this is default setting for the lab's printer.
The date doesn't actually appear on the image. It's embedded in the data. You can see the date/time stamp by right-clicking on the image and selecting properties. You should see the date taken, date modified, etc..
this camera has an internal clock battery, which must keep the date or any other related information while you changing the batteries, the problem is, since you camera is pretty old, the clock battery is probably long dead, it can be changed, but it will require disassembling and resoldering
I called Canon and they said that date is not available with S400. However, you can get some programs that will print the date on the pictures yourself. Each picture has stored the date it was taken inside the picture file (embedded). Hope that helps.
