Machine was working until we unplugged it when we left on vacation. Now keeps asking for water tank to be removed/ refilled and does not recognize that it has been done. Tried it many times.
ChoccyBar,
THANK YOU. You're answer was so helpful. I have the XP7230 and all of the sudden had exact same problem, machine wouldn't not register a full tank. After reading this I checked the floating piece and saw that it was not floating with a full tank like it is supposed to. Had to obstruct it to keep it afloat as well, and voila, it worked.
Ahh... what a relief to have my machine working again. Coffee has never tasted so good.
My Breville Keurig started flashing with the refill tank message, and wouldn't reset once the tank was filled. I tried all the suggestions, but instead of taking the Breville apart I "tricked" the sensor with a powerful magnet. This worked for me.
1. Remove the water reservoir
2. Set the magnet against the side of the coffee maker where the "pill" inside the water reservoir goes up and down, which should indicate the tank being filled
3. Move the magnet up and down slowly, simulating the water level being filled.
4. Once you've tricked the coffee maker into thinking the tank is full, do it a few more times.
5. Replace the empty water reservoir and then fill it up.
Hope this is helpful for someone!
SOURCE: Krups XP9000 won't recognise water tank is full
I have just had the same problem with my Krups XP7240 and I discovered (quite by accident!) that it was the magnetic float inside the water tank which was causing it. I think the float must have let some water in and always stayed on the bottom even when the tank was full. As the float was in an enclosed plastic column it was a bit hard to access, but through sheer desperation I snapped a plastic fork in half and wedged the handle section under the float to keep it off the bottom and this works nicely. It is not professional by any means but I was quite pleased with my innovation :)
The only down side to this 'method' is that the opposite is now true and when the tank is empty it doesn't register so you would really have to keep an eye on the water level to avoid killing the element completely.
I would imagine that the only professional way to get this sorted out is to replace the tank (or float if it is accessible?). Good luck!!

You have the filter screwed it too far. As soon as you feel the filter seating do not screw it in any further.
