Windows Mail Live (in XP) Contacts disappear on exit of program
I have windows XP and dowloaded Windows Mail Live (version 2009 build 14) but I am encountering problems. If I add or import a contact it works fine and i can use the contact fine but as soon as I exit and reopen the program I don't have any contacts, not a single 1 - it just deletes them all. I use windows mail live (version 2008 build 12) on another XP computer fine with no problems.

Features available through Yahoo! Mail include unlimited storage, the ability to view photos and videos from your inbox and the ability to send 50 files or 100MB worth of attachments in a single email.
You can also access Yahoo!'s instant messaging software from your inbox and check email on your mobile phone and other Internet-enabled devices.
Before signing up for Yahoo! mail, check its compatibility with your version of Internet Explorer.Standard Yahoo! Mail
Yahoo! Mail's standard interface works with Internet Explorer 7 and higher.
However, Internet Explorer 7 users may be unable to use the reply bar, slideshows or Yahoo! Messenger from their inbox.
To access these features, use at least Internet Explorer 9. All Internet Explorer users must have Windows 7, XP or Vista to use the standard form of Yahoo! mail. Mac operating systems using Internet Explorer are not supported by the current version of Yahoo! Mail. Older Option
Users who want to use Yahoo! Mail Classic will find it compatible with Internet Explorer 6, as well as newer versions of the browser.
Yahoo! announced to customers in July 2011 that it would soon stop supporting Internet Explorer 6. Yahoo! Mail Classic works with Windows 2000, XP and Vista, as well as Windows 7.
Yahoo! Mail Classic lacks many of the upgrades found in the current version of the email program.
Upgrades
While Yahoo! Mail supports older versions of Internet Explorer, the company recommends that users upgrade to the most current version.
Yahoo! says using the newest browser software provides more speed and added protection against viruses and software. Enabling ActiveX
If you plan to use the current version of Yahoo! Mail on a Windows machine, you'll want to enable your computer's ActiveX controls so you can access all the features of the email program.
To do this, go to the "Tools" menu or the gear symbol in Internet Explorer, then select "Internet Options" and "Security."
Click on "Internet," then "Custom Level."
Scroll down to "Run ActiveX Controls and Plugins" and "Script ActiveX Controls Marked Safe for Scripting." Enable each of these options and save your settings.
Hi, here's a thing you may try: <Go to Outlook.com> <Sign in there> here's what you'll need to include in your reply: <Your Windows version> <The name of the browser you're using> <Did you restart your computer between installing and uninstalling>
Windows 7 does not support the use of Outlook Express - this was removed from Windows Vista and Windows 7 and replaced by Windows Mail (in Vista) and by Windows Live Mail (in 7). If you have copies of the Outlook Express mail database files (inbox.dbx etc) you should be able to migrate these into Windows Live Mail using the Import Messages option in the File menu and selecting Microsoft Outlook Express 6 then browsing to the folder where your mail database files for Outlook Express are held. If you have previously exported your Outlook Express account details (name.iaf) - you can import these into Windows Live Mail too through the Import option in the Accounts page. Lastly, if you still have your Outlook Express Address book (name.wab) this can be imported in to your Windows Live Contacts by selecting File then Import Windows Address book (.wab).
Solution A: If you using McAfee Antivirus, the following steps will configure SiteAdvisor to stop monitoring windows live messenger. Go try solution B if you are NOT using McAfee Antivirus. 1. Solution B: I am using XP with NOD32, using the latest version 2009 (Build 14.0.8117.416) and here is the solution that works for me, 1. Sign off and Exit messenger 2. Go to C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger 3. Right click on file "msnmsgr.exe", select "Properties", a new window of msnmsgr.exe Properties will pop up. 4. Under "Compatibility" tab, look for "Compatibility mode", if the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for" is checked and show window 2000. Go ahead un-check it. 5. Open messenger again and try to test the video call.

This is what MS told me to do..but did not work. Finally they told me to use 8.5. Try if it helps you. Messenger Connectivity Log & Contacts Log A. Delete the old log files. Right-click
the Start button and then click Explore. In the window that opens,
click Folder Options on the Tools menu. Click the View tab, and then
make sure that Show Hidden files and folders option is selected. 1. Click Start, click Run, type %userprofile%\Local Settings\, and then click OK. 2. Double-click the Application Data folder, double-click Microsoft, and then double-click Messenger. 3. In the Messenger folder, look for the MsnMsgr.txt file and delete it. Note: If

A compressed file is created in the same folder. Please upload the file

While
we are working on this issue, we suggest that you temporarily use the
earlier version of Windows Live Messenger (v8.5) so you can continue to
communicate with your friends. Please note that to be able to install
the previous version, you need to uninstall all the Windows Live
Essentials programs (i.e. version 2009 of Messenger, Mail, Photo Gallery, etc.). 1. Exit Windows Live Messenger. 2. Click Start, click Run, type appwiz.cpl and press Enter 3. On the Add or Remove Programs window, click on Windows Live Essentials, and then click Uninstall/Change 4. Select Uninstall, click Continue. 5. Under Select the programs you want to uninstall, check all the Windows Live programs shown and then click Continue. Windows Live Messenger 8.5 can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7a1aae73-48cc-4f7a-b445-0487bd5e84ef&displaylang=en
If you are using Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8064.0206), you should be able to right-click on the folder in the folder pane, select 'Synchronization settings', and select either 'All messages' or 'Headers only' from the list for every folder you wish to modify. Once all of them have been modified to your liking, close Live Mail and reopen it. Your settings should have been saved and should not have reverted to 'All messages.' I have found that if you do not restart the program, it sometimes ignores configuration changes. If you are still using Version 2008 (Build 12.x.xxxx.xxxx), I would recommend visiting http://home.live.com to upgrade to the latest version first.
