Answering machine does not work

I have a Model 27851 GE Cordless phone 3 in a set. I cannot get the answering machine to work. I have no messages. It was working and now it does not. It was given to me as a gift last Xmas so I do not have the
sales slip or box to send it back. Also I have tried to record a new announcement and that worked but it still does not pick up and answer when I turn it on to answer on.
Thanking you in advance for your assistance in this matter.

Even after the voice message is left, the answering box still shows zero messages.

    Please help. Thanks

I have tried to get the answering machine to pick up at least five times, but it want answer the calls, its a birthday present from January so its not old enough to have these problems.

I have successfully recorded the announcement and callers (including myself) can leave messages w/ the impression that message has been successfully recorded but the base unit does not indicate messages are saved and trying to playback messages only gives response that there are no messages. However when I pick up a handset, I am given a series of beep tones that indicate messages are waiting. The answering function is ON! Ideas?

Lost mannual on 5.8GHZ NEED TO CHANGE MESSAGE ON MACHINE

To record a new Outgoing Announcement, press and hold the Announce button on the base. Begin speaking after the beep. You can record a message up to 2 minutes and should be about 9" from the microphone. When you have finished speaking your entire message, release the Announce button.
The manual for your GE 27851 is available here: http://www.home-electronics.net/USER-GUIDES/27851_DOM_EN_CL_IB.pdf . The phone was made by Thomson and most of their phone manuals are available here: http://www.home-electronics.net/user_guides.asp . Select the type of phone and the language in which you wish to read the manual. Then click Search. The models will be listed in numerical order.

I hope this helps.

Reset outgoing message

Press and hold the ANNOUNCE button on the base and keep pressing it until you finish your announcement. Start recording your announcement when you hear a beep. Let go of the ANNOUNCE button when you're done. You can record up to a two minute message.

You can download the full manual here for future reference.

Register phone

If it's the model 27851 it's as easy as setting each handset in the base (the answering machine part) for 20 seconds. That's it! Hope this helps.
