My Maytag PAV2200AWW Washing Machine makes a noise like grinding or metal-metal contact during the agitate cycle. How can I fix it?

The belt and pullies appear in good condition. I hear the issue primarily during the agitation portion of the cycle. It barely makes the sound during spin. The washer makes the noise whether full of water and clothes or empty (dry). The pump was able to empty the load that was in it when I found the issue, but I am afraid to run more loads for fear it will break for good and I will have a tub full of water and no way to empty it. This washer often bangs during the spin cycle, and has for years. I expect that this is a separate issue. I saw some white debris inside the machine under the tub. I would like to address that after I am sure I can get it to actually run correctly.

The sounds of 'metal grinding/banging" begs the question of whether or not its even safe? If you hear that sound all the time or as you say ONLY during the agitation cycle suggests that you be able to service the tub/motor mounts in the underneath chass--which is a heavy-duty technician job. A Maytag technician has the tools you need. Or the obvious...get another one from a friend who is upgrading to a new washer and hands it down to you for a little change.

Testimonial: "I'm more handy than you might expect. What are the part numbers for the tub/motor mounts? What is involved in the service procedure?"

My maytag top loader model # MAV6300AWW makes a grinding noise during agitation that sounds like gravel otherwise the washer runs normal. What could be the problem?

The main shaft has two bearings. These bearings are going bad. If not at this time, then very soon you will discover water under your machine. This is because the seal lets water get buy which ruins the bearings. Then when machine goes into spin cycle it will sound like a jetliner taking off or coming in for a landing. Go online find the best price for parts and fix your problem. Good Luck Friend.

Grinding washing machine agitator

more than likely the pump is the part that is making the noise. You can verify this by leaning the machine back where you can see the pulleys, your pump will be the one in the back. Remove the belt and each pulley should turn smoothly. The part number for the pump is 35-6780

Maytag PAV2300AWW Washer makes grinding sound when agitating

Sounds like it is the bearing on the water pump. Take off back plate and replace and remove 3 screws and two hoses (the one hose is a waste line so make sure you have a bucket to empty our waste water) after removing these remove belt on bottom of pump.

Agitation issues. Everything else appears/works normally.

I just encountered the same problem. I think the operation of the machine is such that the motor turns one direction for the spin cycle, and the other direction for the agitate cycle. I am replacing my motor, as I think i have a bad winding on the reverse. I will let you know.

Make noise during wash cycle, has no agitator action and no spin during spin cycle/drain cycle

Looks like the bearings may have failed. TURN OFF the POWER and try and rotate the agitator/tub by hand. If it is jammed you should investigate why. Possibly caused by bearing failure or something wound around spindle.

Take care and do not attempt to investigate the problem without first disconnecting from the mains!
