could call amazon see if they can help
or do a factory reset to eliminate software problems you will lose all your data
then there is hardware problems dead battery that won't recharge bad cable connection inside kindle

The only real ways are to 1)Install Android and keep it connected to the charging USB cable. You lose the original Amazon OS and the free Amazon Prime movies. or 2)Install a new battery, There are YouTube videos showing you how. I chose method ! and I'm having fun learning Android KitKat 4.4.2

Why my kindle fire hd won't charge

I had something similar happen to my Asus Memo 10. In order to get past it I had to turn off the Asus interface gui. The process requires a factory reset and you will lose all your data so first back everything up. I don't know the process for Kindle to reset the factory image but I'm sure you can find it online.
