I just bought this unit on boxing day. I'm able to use it on Windows 2000 now.
The root cause is the YP-U3 you have uses MTP (media transfer protocol) instead of UMS (USB mass storage). MTP is supported under Windows XP with media player 10. But WMP10 doesn't install on Windows 2000.
If you still want to use Windows 2000, read this article

Download the exe file at the end of this article. During installation, copy the extracted file under your temp directory (c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temp by default) somewhere else. Then cancel the installation.
Now when you plug in the YP-U3, manully locate the inf file in the directory you copied. Ignore the warnings. After you install the mtp driver, you should be able to use it with SMS (Samsung Media Studio).

Well one way to do this is to open your Windows Explorer and copy and paste the songs into the appropriate folder of your Mp3 player.
1. Plug in your Mp3 player into a viable USB slot on your computer
2. Right click on start button and click on "explore". This should take you to Windows Explorer
3. Find the folder that holds the songs you want to transfer and click on it.
4. Copy the songs you require by right clicking on the song and select "copy". You can highlight all the songs you want to copy by holding down the CTRL key and clicking on each song you want to copy. Now right click and select "copy".
5. Scroll down on the left column until you find the drive for your Mp3 player. Click on this to open the folders of your Mp3 player.
6. Find the appropriate folder on the right column and now just right click on a blank area and select "paste".
7. You should now be able to transfer your songs to the Mp3 player.
Hope that works. Please let me know how it went and good luck!

It is easier to get a SD memory card for it. Drag and drop the music onto the window which represents the SD memory card and then just put the SD memory card into the GPX MP3 player. I have the same MP3 player and it works nice... it was a good deal for the money! Take the savings and invest in a cheap SD memory card and you will be happy.... I was!
:-) Good Luck!

Just set Windows Media to handle the file format you see in the appropriate directory when you open the device as a disk drive, copy it around or sync, then render to an appropriate format to burn to a CD, perhaps using Audacity or other mastering software to keep sound levels reasonably constant.
