I have a 2017 Cub Cadet XT2 with differential lock. When I'm turning a tight radius it pushes the mower straight out of the turn. This causes the front tires to scrape the lawn. Can anything be done?

The differential lock should release when you remove your foot from the lock pedal.

The manual says disengage may be delayed until allowed...

If you go into a turn with lock engaged it will likely stay engaged even after you remove your foot from the lock pedal, until you exit the turn or come to a stop.

Try releasing the lock pedal well before you begin your turn.

  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Remove the brake caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Replacement.
  4. Remove the rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement.
  5. Remove the rear axle housing cover and the gasket. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement.
  6. Remove the pinion shaft locking bolt.

  7. On axles without a locking differential, remove the pinion shaft.

  8. On axles with a locking differential, remove the shaft part way. Rotate the case until the pinion shaft touches the housing.

  9. On axles with a locking differential, use a screwdriver, or a similar tool, in order to enter the differential case and rotate the C-lock?(1) until the C-lock aligns with the thrust block?(2).
  10. Push the flange of the axle shaft?(1) toward the differential.

  11. Remove the C-lock from the button end of the axle shaft.

  12. Note: When removing the axle shaft, do not rotate the shaft. Rotating the shaft will misalign the gears. Misaligning the gears will make the installing of the axle shaft difficult.
  13. Remove the axle shaft from the housing.

How to put in four wheel drive

FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM

(a) Four-wheel drive control

Use the four-wheel drive control lever and center

differential lock button to select the following transfer and

center differential modes.

The "H" and "L" position of the four-wheel drive control lever

provides either lock or unlock mode of the center differential

depending on the center differential lock button position.

Use the center differential lock system if your wheels get stuck

in a ditch, or when you are driving on a slippery or bumpy

surface. When the center differential is locked, the vehicle

stability control system is automatically turned off and the

center differential lock and "VSC OFF" indicator lights come on

because the function that controls engine performance

As soon as the center differential lock switch is turned

on, the "VSC OFF" indicator light comes on. After the

wheels are out of the ditch or off the slippery or bumpy

surface, turn the center differential lock switch off.

Make sure the center differential lock indicator light and

vehicle stability control system off indicator light turn

off.

"H" (high speed position, center differential unlocked):

Lever at "H", center differential lock button left out

Use this for normal driving on all types of roads, from dry

hard-surfaced roads to wet, icy or snow-covered roads. This

position gives greater economy, quietest ride, least wear and

better vehicle control.

"H" (high speed position, center differential locked): Lever

at "H", center differential lock button pushed in

Use this for greater traction when you experience a loss of

power, such as wheel slipping, in the center differential unlock

mode.

"N" (neutral position): Lever at "N"

No power is delivered to the wheels. The vehicle must be

stopped.

"L" (low speed position, center differential unlocked):

Lever at "L", center differential lock button left out

Use this for maximum power and traction. Use this for climbing

or descending steep hills, off-road driving, and hard pulling in

sand or mud.

In this mode, the braking feeling that occurs when the wheels

are negotiating a sharp corner is further reduced than in the "L"

(low position, center differential locked) mode.

"L" (low speed position, center differential locked): Lever

at "L", center differential lock button pushed in

Use this for maximum power and traction. Use this for hard

pulling in situations the vehicle cannot negotiate even in the "L"

(low speed position, center differential unlocked) mode. Also,

using this mode when driving down steep off-road inclines will

help contribute to increased vehicle stability.

When i engage in 4 wheel drive, the jeep jerks when i turn and i hear a cracking noise, can it be my bad rotors an brakes?

I think what you are hearing is the CV joints complaining about the Differential being locked. Check to see if the Diff lock lamp is on or if the button has been pressed. When you trun a corner, the wheel on the outside of the turn has to travel further then the inner wheel, because of this, the outer wheel rotates faster and this is made possible by the differential. If the differential is locked then usually the inner wheel has to skip along or the CV joints start to jump over the balls (which is NOT good) Locking the differential means that the gears that allow one wheel to rotate faster then the other one are locked together and the wheels MUST turn together. This prevents loss of drive through the differential as it forces both wheels to rotate together, handy if you get bogged or are driving over sand or soft ground. But not recommended if you are driving on sealed roads..

My 2004 Mercury Mountaineer will go into gear but will not move. What could be the problem

Your rear emergency brakes could be hung up. Especially if a parking valet or someone else parked it recently.

You need to jack up both rear wheels and then put your car into neutral with the motor OFF. If the rear wheels can not be manually turned it is either the emergency brakes, the differential or the transmission.

The emergency brakes require removing the back tires and rotors. If it is still locked, then it is either the differential or the trans. The driveshaft connects the trans to the differential so remove the driveshaft. If the differential turns without the driveshaft, then the trans is locked up. If the differential does not turn the problem is inside the differential.

Differetial locks for 94 land cruiser

91-97 Land Cruisers had a factory option for front and rear locking differentials. This is a seperate switch and is usually located to the left of US model Land Cruisers. The center dash button locks your transfer case differential changing your Land Cruiser from all wheel drive to four wheel drive depending if you have ABS or not this button either says ECT or Center Dif Lock. If you do not have the Front/Rear locking differential option then your Land Cruiser has open Front and Rear. Hope this answers your question.
