Best bet would be to search YouTube videos. Four thread stitching is desired when making apparel that needs the extra reinforcement, ie seams on clothing. Three thread stitching is more for decorative stitching and articles that do not have to endure stress on the stitches, ie scarves, tablecloths, napkins.
