There is a small motor under the shroud that operates the resistance motor. It is about the size of a roll of half dollars. Have someone use a meter and check that you are getting power to this. When you turn on the machine the motor should move the resistance forward then back. You can hear this everytime you turn it on.

Life FItness elliptical model X7 has too much resistance on startup. Prevents use for warming up.

It sounds like the resistance on your Life Fitness X7 elliptical is set too high for the machine to be used effectively as a warm-up tool. There are a few things you can try to adjust the resistance on the machine.
  • Check the user manual that came with the elliptical to see if there are any specific instructions for adjusting the resistance.
  • Check the resistance settings on the dashboard to ensure that they are set to the correct level.
  • Check the resistance adjustment knob or lever to ensure that it is not stuck or jammed in place.
  • Check the belt tension on the elliptical to ensure that it is not too tight.
  • Check to ensure that there is no debris or dust in the resistance mechanism.
  • If the issue still persists after trying the above steps, it may be best to contact Life Fitness technical support or consult a technician for further assistance.
It is also a good idea to inspect the machine overall for any damage or wear.
If all else fails, the used elliptical may have a defect or may not be compatible with your needs. You may need to consider purchasing a new one or a different model for your clients warm-up needs.

Sole e95 level suddenly backwards. 20 is easy 1 is hard.

Watch this video if your resistance is backwards or stuck. This is a common problem and is caused by the linkage cable slipping off and ending up on the top of the flywheel instead of being on the bottom.

Why is the the resistance on my sole e55 remaining easy to spin regardless of which resistance setting I select?

Belt could have come off. if the belt did break or come of it would be very easy to spin pedals. Flywheel ( brake ) could have jammed up. Loosen the covers and look for the brake cable that's connected to the resistance motor. Then run the resistance up to 20. If cable feels loose , the brake is stuck. Sometimes you can pull on the cable and it will free it up.

How do I adjust the tension. Even at zero resistance it is too difficult

Hi Doug,
You may have a problem with the resistance motor. The covers will have to be taken off to fix.
Usually when you increase or decrease the resistance you will hear the motor working. Do you hear it ?

Bladez elliptical

see the steps and fix it. God bless you
Adjust the magnet with bolt attached there are loose, tight very well and ready the resistance is the main parts that need repair,
However if the resistance is faulty, you must test again the magnet from the refrigerator by attracting or repeled, if do not pass this test replace it buying small cheaping from home depot or similar.
GoD BLess you
  • 1 Check your owner's manual for diagrams and definitions. You'll need this information when you put the elliptical back together. You'll also want definitions in case you need to call the customer support line for assistance.
  • 2 Be aware that the resistance is often the part that requires repair. Resistance is managed magnetically, so often if the machine is working, but the resistance isn't setting correctly or at all, check the bolts that secure the magnets. If they are loose, the resistance will slip. If the bolts are fine, check the magnets themselves by using a refrigerator magnet and see if it is attracted or repelled by the your fridge magnet. If not, the magnets have de-magnetized and need to be replaced.

  • 3 Consider that if the foot pedals are attached with bolts, any slipping can be fixed with a quick use of the wrench. But if the foot pedals are damaged or breaking, order new foot pedals (see Resources below) rather than run the risk of a pedal breaking while you're on the machine.
  • 4 Check the hand bars. While not all people use them, as they can elevate your heart rate by up to 20 percent, they can become worn, too. While loose hand bars typically need a simple tightening of the bolt, be sure not to overtighten as the bolts can break.
  • 5 Know that if the axis is bent, it's likely you need a new machine. The axis is the central alignment of the elliptical. If the machine was used by a person who is over the maximum weight limit, it can be bent or damaged. It's not an easy fix and a better idea is to upgrade to a sturdier machine.

Resistance level does not change anymore. What is

I fixed a problem with my Schwinn Elliptical 430 resistance level not working. When I would change the level anywhere from 1-16, I could hear the motor turning, but there was no change in resistance. If you hear the motor moving, then try this:

Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove all the screws on the left side of the large plastic cover (left side if you are standing on the machine). When all screws are removed, you can pull the plastic cover off, and move it towards the back of the machine without having to disconnect any of the metal bars. (The bottom two screws are a little tricky to get off. Hold the housing in place, don't let it sag, in order to get them out.

Look inside the unit and find the magnet, which is a rounded, brake-show like piece that is close to the flywheel, on the top half of the unit. There's a cable from the motor that goes upward and is attached to the magnet housing.

If you try to adjust the resistance level now, you should see cable move up. This is supposed to allow the magnet to move closer to the flywheel and increase resistance. In my case, the magnet was stuck and wouldn't move upwards. When I gave the magnet a little push with a screwdriver, it popped up to where it should be.

To solve this issue, you will need two wrenches. You must go to the opposite end of the magnet, towards the front of the machine, and you will see it's connected with a nut & bolt. Using a couple wrenches, hold the bolt, and loosen the nut about 1/4 turn.

This should lessen the pressure on the magnet housing and allow it to move freely and not bind. Reassemble everything. Lie the elliptical down on it's side to allow the screws to fall into the holes easier.

Once it's all back together, you should find that the resistance level works again!
