Hello, what you are not telling us is the size of the wires in the 4' cord and the 80' cord. However, you are correct in your thinking that the longer cord is cutting back on the available power that you have. Yes, if you extend the length, then the wire size in the cord has to be increased as well. To give you a size we will need to know the generator size. Having said that, an 80' cord is going to be a BIG amount of money. You might want to tell yourself how much money you are saving pulling the generator around. If you have to use the generator a lot, you might consider installing a cable to run the generator with.
