The size of a power cord is determined by two factors:
1) the Amperage being delivered, and
2) the Distance that the current is being carried.
Extreme examples could be:
- A diesel generator supplying a small community on a remote island. or
- A tiny generator connnected to a recreational vehicle.
If you can describe what you are trying to accomplish, we'll try to give a specific answer.
Meanwhile:
- small appliance, short distance, small cord.
- Bigger appliance, bigger cord.
- Longer distance, bigger cord.
- Tripping circuit breaker, bigger cord.
- Warm/hot cord, bigger cord.
