Why is my sony hvr hd camcoder not switching on

the fault should be in side the cam, start test from the charger connecting socket, measure the power in the mother board, if any of the fusible resistor or the regulator SMD found faulty, must replace.

the tape deck mechanism is faulty, the remedy is to change the mechanism. if you can repair it open take out the mechanism, remove the head, eject housing,and the sensors mechanism locking plate etc, then peel out the flexible cable from the mechanism, and change it.

Your owners manual will show you on page 74 how to connect the iLink cable between the camera and computer. If you have lost the manual, it is downloadable for free.

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

... the cause: the flex is broken.

You will need a cleaning cassette- the same type that you record on, but with a cleaning tape in it instead of recording tape.

No Sony camera will work with Win 7 as yet (with USB cable) however Firewire cables do work okay?

Don't have an answer, but two of our Sony HVR-A1U have now lost touch screen function. I wonder if this is a common problem?
