I have a Stanley 17.5 hp 42"cut riding mower, purchased in 2002. Lately it has started to move slower, especially on grades, and really slow in reverse. It has a hydrostatic transmission. Are there adjustments that can be made to help this. The engine is as good as ever. Thanks

My riding mower stops moving forward after 30 minutes of cutting it starts right up the blades engage properly and cuts great it will just stop moving

Check under the seat under the battery box there you should find the drive pulleys for the rear end the belt could be worn out and turned inside out causing it to slip or stop pulling once it heats up mine was installed inside out from Lowes when I purchased the mower causing me to replace the belt hope this helps

check bearings of all spindles the belt drives Find the one that has seized and replace the bearings. They all suffer from water and dirt getting in

Craftsman Riding Mower (24 HP 42 in cut Model 289254) with throttle issue. Very slow in 6th gear

follow the throttle cable all the way down to the engine. Have some one move the throttle up and down to see if the throttle plate is opening and closing all the way. You can loosen the screw holding the throttle cable and move it back and forth to see if it will allow the throttle plate to open and close correctly. It may have slipped when the assembler tried to tighten it.

I purchased a used Craftsman LT 1000 17 hp 42"

I've had to do this at least 5 times. If you look under the body, there are two supports that carry the mower deck and lift and lower it. Each of these has a nut that holds up the deck and the nut is on a stud that goes up and down when you raise or lower the lever. Put the deck in the middle of it's range, around #3, make sure the key is off, move your blades so they are on the right and left edge of the deck.
Get yourself a device to measure blade to ground height, I have a block of wood that is 3 inches long. Make sure your floor or ground is level and tires are properly pumped up. Then raise or lower the adjustment nuts until both sides are equal height.

I have a 42 in poulan pro riding mower that keeps cutting off while mowing the lawn

safety switch on seat, are you bopping or are you going to fast for the mower slow down speed kills ha ha , other than that get it serviced maybe, try going slower they are not v8 mowers , hope this helps ,, keeps cutting off means it does start again yes

How many HP?

* If your yard is up to an acre in size, the ideal cutting width is 30-42" (76-106cm). To avoid being underpowered, or putting too much strain on the engine, make sure your mower or tractor offers a minimum 14 horsepower. Riding mowers are the most commonly purchased for lawns this size. * For a yard that is between one and three acres, you’ll reduce your mowing time with a cutting width of 42-46" (106-116cm) and a strong engine up to 16 HP. Typically people purchase lawn tractors for yards of this size. * If you’re mowing more than three acres, you’ll need to look at the garden tractors, with cutting widths up to 54" (137cm) and at least an 18 HP engine, preferably bigger.

Sounds like its slipping..
Have you checked the hydro fluid ?
Are there any leaks ?
Could be an adjustment in the pedal..
Look at all the pedal linkage and you might find some adjustment there..
Or - maybe a moving part is waring out in the linkage..

I have a stanley 22hp 52" cut with hydrostatic trans with same problem the manual tells you nothing about checking fluid or changing fluid that is what I want to know too!!! Thanks!!!

I think my trans is sealed and thereis no way The manual tells you how to work on it!!! Any info would help,mines making noise and gets slower the hotter it gets!!! Thanks
