Hi Janet
Try using a standard phone to call your Fax Line
Connect a phone to this Line to test for voice
Disconnect Fax Machine from Phone Line
Reset Fax machine
The Fax machine is supposed to respond to the right tones being sent down the voice line
If it is not responding & all else works then check your Fax settings for "Receiving"

Testimonial: "Unplugged everything, standard phone connected still busy signal. How do I reset Panasonic uf 5500 fax machine?"

WE CANNOT RECEIVE OR SEND FAXES, BUSY/NO SIGNAL

Plug a phone into the jack and check to make sure you have a dial tone. If not telephone company needs to be called. If dial tone it may be the other number you are trying to fax to. try calling the number from phone and see if it picks up.

When I dial a fax number I get a busy signal even though I know that the number is not busy because I have dialed it on my outside line and it works. This has happened repeatedly. I have unplugged...

Since you mentioned that you have an outside line, do you have to use a code to dial out normally? Try plugging in a phone to the line for your fax machine, and attempt to dial the number for the other fax machine using the phone. You should reach the fax and hear a high pitched sequence of tones. This is the other fax machine trying to establish a connection. If you still get a busy signal, try calling the owner and letting them know that their fax machine is not accepting incoming calls.

I cannot receive faxes but can send them

Take your cell-phone, and dial the telephone-number of your FAX machine.

Does it ring as "busy" ? Or, an "out-of-service" intercept?

Does it ring at all (in your ear)?

After a few rings, does your call go to voice-mail?

Does the LCD screen on the printer show "incoming call" ?

Can dial out and receive incoming calls but will

Are you connected to a VOIP line for your fax?
A VOIP line can come from a company like Vonage or your local cable co.

If so:

Unfortunatly, faxing over VOIP (Internet) is not always successful. You might want to talk to your VOIP provider if they have a solution.

If not:

Are you trying with the same fax to send and recieve? Some traditional fax machines have probles connecting to fax modems, which is what you have in an Office Jet.
Try having someone else send you a fax and try sending to another number. Otherwise, you might have a defective fax modem.

Our new HP Oficejet Pro L7780 can send faxes but can't receive

Hi,

First things first, i really want to know how things being setup in your end. Let say for example, from the walljack what is the device connected to it. Or if your using one line for both incoming calls and faxes. Or if your using a DSL also for that same phone number for faxing/incoming calls.

Those are just severa factors that affect your problems. Meanwhile, i cant give you a solution on your issue since i still dont have a clear picture on are the devices connected with each other. ALso, its really advisable that you need to use the telephone cord that came out with the box.

Thank you so much. I remain.

Brother Fax T78 wont 'ring'

Yes. try bypassing the router by plugging your phone directly into the phone jack, and have someone send you a test fax.
What happens it even now days, the majority of fax machines still use analogue phone lines, and the digital signal will mess them up, mostly because the digital lines have less power and current, and do not signal the recieve mode to switch on.
Very common occurance. Glad you mentioned the router or I would have sent you down a long winding path LOL.
You are suffering a low signal issue.
The reason you can call out is that you are manually activating the phone or fax when you remove the receiver. When you receive, it taked the proper signal strength to activate the fax modem.
