since I have no model or serial, I assume this is an electric oven based on the description provided. this is usually an indication that the heating element has gone bad. possibly having a short to ground which completes a partial circuit in turn giving you heat and a light. I would look in this direction first.
Rub roast all over with thyme, basil, marjoram, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Place meat in a sealable plastic bag, seal the bag, and refrigerate, 8 hours to overnight. ...
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). ...
There are hundreds of internet recipes for pork shoulder (or porkbutt--which is just a couple pieces of pork shoulder that are butted together and tied with string).
I have an electric oven and the same problem: loads of steam when I open the door. Plus roasting is a problem, the pan fills up with water and needs to be drained so things are stewing and not roasting. Have spent ages trying to to find a solution so would also appreciate any advice.
Step 2
Remove turkey from its wrapping and remove neck and giblets from inside the cavity. Set aside to make gravy later (see Related eHows).
Step 3
Rinse turkey inside and out with cold water. Pat dry with paper towels.
Step 4
Put oven rack on lowest level of oven.
Step 5
Place turkey, breast side up, on a roasting rack in a roasting pan.
Step 6
Rub the outside of the turkey with olive oil.
Step 7
Salt and pepper the turkey's body and cavity.
Step 8
Roast turkey about 3 hours, or until a meat thermometer inserted in the thickest part of the thigh registers 175 to 180 degrees F.
jQuery('.article ol .image').each(function(i,e){
var $this = jQuery(this);
$this.find('img').error(function(){
jQuery(this).remove();
$this.remove();
});
});
Tips & Warnings
In general, a turkey should be roasted 10 to 12 minutes per pound if it is not stuffed and 12 to 15 minutes per pound if it is stuffed.
In general, you shouldn't cover a roasting turkey (or any roasting meat); you want the skin to get a nice, deep brown all over, and you don't want it to steam in its own juices. However, if the turkey begins to brown too quickly, well before it's likely to be done, you can cover the brown parts loosely with aluminum foil. (This is likely to happen with larger birds.) Try to cover as little of the turkey as possible so you don't create steam.

ensure that your convection fan is turning
a hum on this model usualy means that the convection motor can seize up a bit
sometimes all you need to do is redjust the fan blade
self cleaning is sometimes a cycle called PYRO clean / look for the setting with a really high temp. self cleaning is a programmes require a massive amount of heat and will smoke a lot when on , so dont be alarmed! most oven when on self cleaning mode will automaticly lock the door due to the high heat involved in the process. so remember to remove pans etc. from inside.
