There is no way to identify the S/N from the model number only. The model number only indicates what features were included in that model. Hundreds or thousands of that model may have been made. Unless you have the purchase receipt that MAY have the s/n on it, you will either need to work harder to enhance and read the faded label or live with the fact that the serial number is unattainable.

It sounds like a engine ignition misfire to me, have the plugs and plug wires been replaced? If not replace them taking care to route the plug wires exactly as the factory did, replace any broken loom holders for the plug wires, this is very important.

Here is picture of my Model CB. Based on the serial number it is slightly newer, but it should be close enough. Mine also came with a battery charger, which why it has the extra hole.

After the change of batteries, the screen reverted to default contrast. You should try to darken the screen.
Press and hold the [Diamond] key and tap the [+] key. Keep at it until screen is dark enough.

i would disconnect the battery again let it sit for 15 minutes, i changed an alternator and jumped the car then started driving and that happened to me, 20 minutes of driving and the computer finally kicked in and started working again. good luck
