It's probably best to buy a keyboard off auction sites or a new screen, the Function
keys are not OS sensitive so a different keyboard will not work with
them, they are device specific and require special drivers to operate.
Are keys broken or are they just missing? the membrane will still work to a firm press even if the key is missing.
Hi Friend,
In this case i would recommend you to please try connecting the external keyboard to the system and check if you have the same issue with the external one as well.
If the external one works fine then I believe there is a need to reseat ( disconnect and reconnect) the keyboard.
The touch screen don't work ? Do you use an external mouse ? Did you replace the external mouse if you have one? 1st gingerly, and softly pass your hand across the entire keyboard from left to right, then right to left touching ALL keys [[ ALL]] . go up and down the keyboard . 2nd take the eraser of the pencil and gently TAP all keys to UNstick any key that could be shorted out. If that don't work, get back to me so that I can show you how to use a WORD PROCESSOR to find your problem.
Is it stuck ... i.e. many space being keyed ... when you are not holding it down ? or is it NOT giving you a space when you press on it ?
Either way, try using a different (external) keyboard to see if the same problem exists. If it's the keyboard, have it cleaned/serviced.
Trying a desktop keyboard is useful for determining if it is a keyboard problem or a software problem. This usualy happens if some liquid has gotten into the keyboard, but you said thats not possible. Try to boot into bios, the first screen that pops up when you boot, on a toshiba it is usually pressing F1 or Del. then if your Arrow keys don't work there, you need a new keyboard.
Keys may be sticky. Some bread crumbs (or something elses) stuck under the keys. Try cleaning your keeboard with a soft brush. You can also hold the keyboard upside down and tap gently on its back to force the particles out.
May be it is time to treat youself to a new keyboard.
Isolate the issue first. If your using an external keyboard, remove it and test if you still experience it. If not, then there could be a stuck key on your external keyboard.
If yes, then there could be a stuck key on the laptops keyboard.
If there is a stuck key, try to check the buttons on the KB then contact Toshiba to avail of your warranty for the repair.
