High pitch grinding noise coming from motor when starting idling or driving
Went to pick my wife up from work and parked the car. Motor still running but in park all of a sudden I head this loud noise which sound like metal to metal noise. I turn off motor check my oil level which is good. I drove home with this loud sound and afterwards start checking everything but couldn't see. I did put a stick up to the alternator and heard the sound but that wasn't it.

With the park brake on, start the engine with the hood open so you can see it through the windshield. Put it in reverse and give it some gas, if the engine moves up, you have a broken mount. Do the same in drive. If the motor moves up then the mount on the side of the engine that moved up is broken. If these tests don't show a broken mount then your grinding noise is coming from elsewhere.
the parking spaw inside trans came off, remove trans pan, drain fluid, get a new trans filter and fluid, and a repair manual for this vehicle, it will show you what to do, its easy fix, as long as nothing else is bad. parking spawl is visable , will probably be in pan when you remove it.
don't ram it into a pole, that seldom helps the ticking. get a pressure test done to be sure the oil pump is functioning as it should, motor flush is not always a good idea but if it helped then it probably didn't get rid of all of the sludge, if a lifter collapses, it will always tick no matter what you do, if it is an oil pressure issue the tick can come and go. one thing to consider, sludge happens from poor maintenance, it can hide other issues, clearing out all of the sludge can cause an engine knock if the bearings are worn.
Run 12V directly to the motor and see if it will run, if it dosent than the motor is bad, if it does than the resister is bad, the resister makes the blower run and also regulates the speeds for the blower, but chanses are if it was making a high pitch squeel before it quit the motor went out.
I had the same problem on my 2005 Envoy. Turned out to be the idler pulley bearing. It is just a pulley the belt rides on. The bearing in the pulley was what was making the high pitched whine. I replaced the bearing, and the noise went away.
Check your battery first. Cold weather does horrible things to car batteries... if it's more of a grinding sound I would say that your starter gear is bad. I believe they call it a ring gear? I had a similar problem with a kushman scooter that I use to deliver snowcones through the neighborhoods. It has teeth that need to engage and if those teeth have been grinded down it will have a hard time engaging....
I had a high pitch noise, didn't sound like it came from the "underside". Turns out it was one of fans that had little chips in the blades? My Audi dealer replaced it, and it's fine now.
