There is no way to bypass the touchscreen step of the setup process. I repair phones, including the T-Mobile G1. I can replace the screen for you if you would like for $60. Please email me at [email protected] for more information.

I don't think there's a way to bypass it, but it's not that hard to replace the touch screen, maybe there's even just a little corrosion on the connector. There's a T-Mobile G1 Repair Guide that shows you how to take it apart. If you don't want to do it yourself and a third party T-Mobile G1 Repair Service.

Why my touch doesnt work one day gone??

my touch screen would have problems working if i had certain apps downloaded. such as ones that pull alot on your location, using satillite positioning.. also it would freeze up because i had "orientation enabled".. try unabling orientation, then reenabling..

if all else fails, start looking for tiny cracks or scratches all over the screen, and making sure the screen is completely greaseless and free of crud...

G1 got little wet but it dried out and screen shows all but now triangle and cant get touchscreen to work....what do i do?

If it got wet it might still be wet from the inside and that is why your touch screen wont work, You would need to open it and clean it from inside. Or it could have a bad digitizer and that is a second reason why the touch screen wouldnt work. You can try doing a hard reset if you says it just shows a triangle on the screen.

Turn the G1 off. If it’s frozen on, take the battery out and put it back in the unit.Hold the Home and Power keys down at same time for about 25 seconds. You will see a yellow triangle screen with exclamation point in the middle
Now to wipe the device clean:
Press Alt+L. Press Alt+W for a factory reset.
Press the Home and Back keys again for about 25 seconds.
The device should then reset again and the hard reset is complete.

I have a G1 and everytime i try to use the touch screem it doest work.

your touch screen digitzer could be bad, if you dropped the phone or water damage was involved. Theres are cables that connect the touch screen to a lcd then to a flex cable that connects to the main board. I would first replace the touch screen digitzer.

Touch screen freezes and doesnt give me access to phone

There are known issues with many of the HTC touch screens becoming unresponsive. You can try to clean the perimeter of the screen with a card, etc then wash any oil from the screen...just in case. But a huge number of these have been coming back to the vendors broken, if this is the case you can only contact your provider and hope you can get it replaced/repaired under the warrenty.

India HTC G1 phone -water damage.

try this :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .

it sounds crazy .

Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
.

Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, SIM, and phone. This should aid in drying.

Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.

It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).

beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.

This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.

I spilled sprite on my g1!!

I dropped my motorola sliver in the bathtub full of water and it quit working totally. I called ATT where I got the phone and they told me to look under the battery. I lifted out the battery and they asked me if there was a white dot under it. I told them no but there was a red one. They said "gone". Meaning that the dot was usually white but if it turns red, the circuits are water/liquid damaged and to throw it away and get another phone. Look under your battery.
