You have probably dropped it to the floor and has received a good impact.

try to repair the case, or better still, get a new one, more than probably won't last long

I have a verbatim usb 2.0 1 TB hard drive and I can't disconnect it from my laptop. I get a message- windows can't stop your generic volume device because it is in use. I just installed Roxio for computer...

Look down in the corner, the right corner for an icon that looks like a small drive slanted with a green arrow over the top of it. If you click on this ICON, it will bring up a small window that says safely remove devices, click on your verbatim drive and it will give you a message. If it fails to do this then Ctrl+Alt+ Delete keys pushed all together one time brings up a window with six buttons. Select "Task Manager" and it will allow you to stop certain processes. Look for the Verbatim drive and halt it. Failing this, you can shut the machine down and remove the disk.

My Verbatim USB says I must insert a disk on Drive F, and files can not open, how to fix this problem? I am struggling to open files but it can`t open them. Kenny

Kenny i believe you drive has been corrupted, try formatting and then using data recovery to recover your files after it works.

External hard drive doesn't respond

Shut your computer down. Disconnect you external hardrive. Power up your computer again. Power up the Verbatim and then connect to a USB port. You should hear a very quiet 'ping'.

Go to My Computer, and the Verbatim should be showing as one of your drives (probably Drive D). You should be able to open it from there.

Make sure that you have a Desk Top Icon for opening the hardrive, it makes it so much easier. Hope this helps
