I was watching a TV show through my laptop via HDMI, halfway through the picture started to breakup and then there was suddenly no picture or sound. The remote also seems to have stopped working, but the TV can still be turned on and off.
The modern TV has two power supply sections. The first is a low voltage +_5 V, very low energy consumption, to keep the remote control functions live. The main power supply seemed to have failed and could be very difficult to fix as it is a energy efficient switch mode supply. Normally the switching transistor or MOSFET fails first and the blows a fuse. Depending on the root cause, replacing these could restore its function.
