Why does my blue flame ventless propane heater go out for no reason?

Did the gas man use a manometer when the gas pressure was adjusted up? The three basic types are 1. round needle guage capable of measuring approximately 30" water column pressure, 2. U-tube manometer filled with a clear or red glycol, and 3. digital guage.

It sounds like the gas pressure is a few inches water column too high which could cause the pilot flame to actually lift off the thermocouple tip causing flame failure after the gas valve opens. More is not necessarily better when it comes to gas pressure. Normal propane manifold pressure is around 10.5" w.c. with maximum inlet pressure of 14" w.c. This pressure can be accurately measured with one of the above listed manometers by tapping into the manifold downstream of the gas valve or in the pressure tap on the downstream side of the gas valve. Most normal 100% redundant gas controls have an individual pilot adjusting screw in the valve itself for adjusting the pilot size and pressure independent of manifold pressure.

Kozy world propane wall heater pilot will not light

This can be caused by several things:

1. The inline gas valve running to the the heater is OFF. Turn the valve ON.

2. The gas control knob on the heater is not exactly in the PILOT position. Unless the knob bottoms
out and you feel strong pressure (other than spring pressure) pushing back at you. It's not exactly
in the PILOT Position. Once the pilot lights, hold the control knob in for 30 seconds to 60 seconds
to allow the Thermocouple to full heat.

3. The pilot is dirty and needs to be cleaned, as do the burners.*

4. The LP Gas Tank is empty or to low to maintain te proper gas pressure.

* Here is a link to a demonstration on how to properly clean the pilot & burners.

I have three Kozy World wall heaters. Two work just fine - the bricks turn red after the heater has been on for a while. The third one always burns blue and the flames 'lick' the top of the inside of the...

Yes, it sounds like the third heater has a Control Valve problem. It's allowing more gas into the system than what it's supposed too. Have you tried turning the flames down to a lower setting? If so, did it lower the flame height? How old is this heater and is cleaned and serviced at least annually? Are you using Natural Gas or Propane?

Please get back to me with the answers to the above questions and I may can help you.

Thanks,

Thermostat problem

I WOULD JUST DOUBLE CHECK THE WIRING TO THE THERMOSTAT AND THE HEATER, , WOULD BE MY GUESS, IF IT WORKED FINE BE FOR, THERMOSTATS DO GO BAD, BUT I WOULD CHECH WIRES, ALSO YOU MAY BE ABLE TO CROSS THE TWO WIRES AT THE THERMOSTAT TO CREATE A DEMAND FOR HEAT, BY PASSING THE THEMOSTAT YOU WILL KNOW IF THE PROBLEM IS AT THE THERMOSTAT OR HEATER GOODLUCK

Kozy World propane wall heater

The ceramic "bricks" need to be heated evenly. Since 3 are good, I would have to assume the other two have a restriction. Maybe a spider in the orifices, If  you can access the "jet" where gas comes out, try using a paper clip or something similar to clear any blockage. If that wont do it, pull the burner, remove each orifice and clear. Good Luck

Can not get the bricks to light on my empire corcho

I have the same htr in Mich. & have worked on gas htrs.for many years.
Does the flame go out when you let go of the button to lite it?
If it does, then the thermocouple is bad.

If the flame stays on, but goes out when you turn the dial,
the gas regulator is bad.

Probably a little more expensive to buy new then to fix it.

Michael.

Kozy world propane wall heater. The pilot light will work

Sounds like you have a common problem with infrared heaters. They are very dust sensitive and they will light and then go out when they are dusty. If you have already tried to blow it out at home you need to take the heater to your propane dealer who will take the heater apart and blow it out correctly. They will then hook it up to their gas line and make sure that the problem is fixed. I hope that you haven't blown up into the bottom of the heater where the gas line is connected. There is a diaphragm up in there and if you blow into it you risk messing it up to where it won't work at all.
