Nutone VX550 suction shuts off during normal use

Hi I have the nutone vx550 and the same situation occurs just started doing this 3 months ago. Ran fine for the last 2 yrs. it is about 2 1/2 yrs. old-when the
vacuum is operated for approx. 5-10 min the the suction stops working, it still has power cause the rotating brush on the sweeper still works just no suction.Let it cool for 10 mins. the vacuum operates again for a short period of time then suts off again, I checked all outlets for blockage -did not detect any, put new bag and still nothing .

Vaccum runs for 2 or 3 minutes then shuts off. Can not restart it for several hours. We have tried EVERYTHING with no luck. I see there is the same problem with the VX550...is there a recall on this one...

The VX series NuTone's have had some problems but NuTone is taking care of them as long as it is under warranty. You can contact NuTone at 1-888-336-6151 or whoever you purchased the unit from and you will most likely get a new unit. There are no parts available for the VX units so whenever there is a problem NuTone has been sending new units out.

Vx550 issues

Heven't fixed it yet, but I've pulled the motor to see what the specific issue is. As soon as I have the problem isolated and a solution, if possible, I'll post it here. I will have to contact Nutone Monday and see what they will do. If nothing, I'll sort it myself.

Nutone central vacuum leaks brown liquid

Dear lord, that is the most absurd thing I've ever heard. Who installed the Vac and DW or were they both in the home before your time?

Normally, if liquid drips out of a CV outlet it's because it was sucked up during vacuuming. However, if your vacuum runs or has suction at the outlets due to the dishwasher running, you have a low voltage gap being bridged by either the dishwasher's wiring or by liquid leaking from it onto the CV wiring somewhere.

Bottom line, you have MAJOR issues inside your home with one or both of the systems, and if there's liquid, there's a dishwasher to be worried about! Look below it for leaks into the basement/lower floor; follow the plumbing (especially the drain waste runs) and figure out where the damage is before your house suffers the lot.

Problems with 353 nutone

if its an older unit or it got heavy use it could be the motor they tend to sputter as there going out, as it rotates the electricity hits a burnt spot inside the motor and shuts itself off can you turn it on manually? they usually put a swithc on the tank itself if the problem doesnt occur when you switch it then it could be the hose itself normally they control the off/on use a meter to check the continuity beteen the two copper plates that are on the end of the hose ( the wall end )

Nutone central vac vx550

It's a known problem. I bought my vx550 last year in July and it stopped working this year in May. On for 5 minutes, shut down, can't run for a few hours, runs for another five minutes, etc. I called the Nutone customer service department and they exchanged the unit for a new one, cross shipped, via UPS. Mine was still under warranty though. It has to do with some defective thermostat or controller in the electronics of the vacuum.

Good luck

Nutone central vac
no suction on lower level second floor fine
ran fish tape but it does not go all the way through,
do i need to take pipe out.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
Not @ first, try to get a central vacuum cuff and go to each and every inlet / outlet down the basement and put the cuff in the inlet – the central vac should come on and possibly might unclog the pipe, 2nd, try taking another canister type vacuum while the central vac is running and open the inlet door and try to “pull apart the clog in the pipe” – this does work upon occasion if not you can try a plumbers snake – but be careful because the walls of the pvc pipe are thin wall and you don’t want to poke a hole in the pipe or other wise you will have to replace the pipe. The absolute last resort should be to replace the pipe if all other do not work. Feel free to contact your local vacuum dealer in your area or in the yellow pages , or contact the factory @ the phone #’s listed below:
