Clean the contacts on the cartidge and printer ( open the replace ink door wait for the printhead to come to center and turn off power) if that does not work then replace cartridge, it might be a recycled one that they did not chane the chip.

1. clean the cartridge contacts in the printer..
2.unplug power adaptor(black box) from the bac of printer,,press and hold stop/clear button..plug the adaptor back in...display says clearing NVRAM,,,,after this printer would turn off and turn on automatically..reenter the intial set up details like language,country....
3.insert black cartridge...still same msg..printer is defective...call techsupport..your printer would be replaced if in warranty.

Hi Try These Solutions:
its quite simple really just turn off your printer then unplug it
remove both cartridge's get like a wet baby wipe or something similar
let them sit on it for @ 10 secs then just real easy wipe the front
piece as well take the same wipe and wipe the heads in the printer well
sort of dab them dont wipe let dry for @ 10 secs put them back in (note
you will need to move your cartridges over to where load position by
hand to and back) run a cleaning test then align test , then print a
test page and wah lah works on every one i ever had to do . sort of fix
the things u know. have fun hope this eases your day or better. merry
christmas to all and to all good night in essence what has occured is
the cartridge got shorted and has dried at the surface as well. try it

Well, I did all that but no dice. But then I noticed that the
"protective" tape on the new cartridge had left sticky junk on the
cartridge -- but NOT on the print heads, just on a regular part. I got
rid of the sticky stuff and voila!
