Hi i have windows 2000 sbs and running symanted 11d on tape device.
my tape device is hp lto1 with scsi adapter which has 200GB tape inside.

can you help me for this?
It's HPE day, why post to fixya for HPE , enterprise level products?
no pc stated

no exact products stated, just symanted? what is that? ah Symantec tape backup software.version?
hp lto1 with scsi adapter
what model LT01. what model scsi adapter make and model.
hp makes vast versions of that drive
like (wild guess)
HP Q1515A
C7401-60024
StorageWorks Ultrium 230 LTO 1 Tape Drive
SCSI LV/DS
Q1516A
try a new tape yet, be wise, no?
never own only 1 tape, and always have 1 spare new on shelf
of the tape runs via the scsi port, ok , all but the error works.
then it is not the scsi card .
tape first.
then get the drive rebuilt.
keep a spare drive on hand after all, is not backup a key function in any data center./? or small business, be ready?

Exact same problem with our Quantum SuperLoader 3 LTO-2 Tape Drive. I start the Sequential ops but when the first tape is full, the BackupExec software sends a message asking for Loading a new media instead of ejecting the tape. In fact, I think that it is the tape drive job to unload the tape when it is full.
If I eject the tape from the Backup exec job menu, it does not work at all. I have to manually move the tape from drive to slot 1 then the drive automatically move the tape from slot 2 to drive and at that time, backup exce continues the backup. Our backup takes 3 tapes so we have to manually move all 3 tapes manually. It is really strange. Looks like a lot of people are having this problem.
I did a lot of research on quantum sites and symantec sites but nothing so far.
thanks to anybody who can help on this one.

Hi,
if you "have not" using Backup Software (e.g. Symantec Backup Exec, CA), you can try this IBM LTO-4 driver for Win2K.

The best way that I have solved this is by using the move commands from the drive, and move it from drive to any free tape slot. Also if that does not work, put a few tapes in the drive and perform the random moves test in diagnostics, that will fool the drive to move the tape.

what software are you using? try not backing up the system state to see if that changes anything?
SOURCE: Quantum ATL SuperLoader
If you cannot physically load a tape into the drive it is a hardware problem and the drive requires service. It is not a software problem.
Of course, the library could already have the maximum tapes it can hold. If this is the case then eject a tape from the library to make room for the tape you want to add.
I hope this helps.
