My MX-900 Universal Remote Control is completely draining new batteries after just 4 days (with minimal use). The remote is 6 years old and has never had this problem before.

I am using regular, new AAA batteries (and not rechargeable batteries) and the remote completely drains the batteries in just 4 days. Batteries used to last between 8-12 months, so I'm not sure why it's doing this now. Everything else with the remote is working perfectly (including the LCD light turning off as expected). I called the support center at Universal Remote Control and their guess is that there may be a short within the remote somewhere, but it's just a guess as they would need to see the remote in order to properly diagnose it.

There should be short circuited component/s inside the remote control. It will be good to buy a new one, rather than try to repair this remote control.
If you wish to buy its original remote control, contact the authorized service centre, or authorized dealer to your device brand. They can either give you a genuine remote control to your device, or can direct you, from where can you purchase a suitable one.
To select a proper universal remote control, you should know about the number of digits to its set-up codes. There are 3 digit, 4 digit, 5 digit, 2 digit and even single digit codes, to some brand devices. After confirming this, check the sites linked here. Both the sites have set-up code list and set-up procedure to many popular brand remote controls. Check which brand remote control has set-up code/s to your device brand, and buy that one according to availability? Brand name of the remote control isn't a matter, but it should have set-up codes in its code list, to the device brand you have.
Please note: Every new universal remote control will have set-up code list, and set-up procedure along with its pack. Never accept a remote control, that hasn't both of this. For more details about the set-up codes, visit the site http://electrohelponline.blogspot.com/ Check this site too. http://remotesearch.blogspot.com/ Universal remote controls are available at most of the electronic spare part selling shops. Visit some online sites too, which deals with electronic spare parts.

Mx-900 wasn't switching channels. Tried new batteries but it is now reading loader. is there a way to get back to normal operation

Try removing the batteries, then short out the terminals in the remote. This should discharge any residual power in the components in the remote. Re insert the batteries and it should then work ok

Why won't MX 900 turn on even after putting in new batteries

The obvious question here is: are the batteries installed the correct way? Here is a web page to download the operator manual:

http://www.universalremote.com/pdf/MX-900OwnerManual.pdf

Also; are your batteries good? are they making good contact? Has the remote been damaged by leaking batteries? Inspect and test.

Do you have the original remote controls for the devices you are trying to control? If so... do they work? Remember... they will need batteries too!

Are there manual switches on the device you want to control? Do they work? Can you turn it on and off?

We are moving through a process to identify which items work, which are good and which are faulty.

Battery goes LOW , then power stops This remote is only 2.5 years old

If you haven't replaced it yet then it's normal - the rechargeable battery has aged and must be replaced. Here is one

Some buttons dont work

very easy fix. got to auto parts store and get permatex rear window defroster repair kit. next remove battery cover and batteries and pry open remote. once open take out the rubber sheet and clean the backside of connectors. open the kit and find the small bottle of conductive paint and brush a small dab on all the contact let dry a few minute and reassemble. Just like that better than new.
