Where is the reset button on my archos 504?

Take the battery off. Just beside the 4 battery terminal connectors there is a little button about 5 mm (1/4 "). Push it with the tip of a pen for 10 seconds and voila!! Hope this helps.

Archos 504 comes on when plugged in briefly but no charge

I had the exact same problem, I looked a bit on the net and I found the answer. What you have to do is push the reset button when your archos isn't plugged on. The reset button is located behind the battery ( you'll have to the remove the battery ) near the pins that connects the archos to its battery. It looks like a gold circle and if you push it you'll see it's a button. After pushing the reset button try to put the battery on back again and replug your archos, it should work normally now.

My Archos 504 will not power up.

Press the Reset button on the inside of the unit with the battery removed. This should solve the Problem. If not you may need to send it in.

Reset button is located under the battery. So remove the battery and loo for the button at the end of the archos where the battery pins make contact. To the right of those and half way down between the pins and the case of the hard drive will be a gold round looking circuit. this is the reset. Press it and off you go.

solution found!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much for the support of the Archos team. here is what i did to repair my 504
if your "reset" button doesn't help at all, this is what you'll do.

If you power on the unit by pressing and holding the TV/LCD button and power
button simultaneously the unit will boot into a recovery screen. Once in this
screen choose "Repair Disk" and follow the on screen instructions.

When prompted, please place the following file into the 'root directory' of
the unit:

http://update.archos.com/4/a504/a504_r1.6.53/a504.aos

before i found this solution, i've already given up on my 504, but now it's back!!!! REBIRTH!!!

I own an Archos 504, i purhcased today a DVR Station GEN 5, the box states compatibility with the 405 and 605, is it compatibble with the 504 too? could you confirm this please before i open the box many...

yes it is compatible but the remote wont work for Archos 504. also, u'll require saddle for 504(usually comes as part of package). dont try to put your archos on the dock without a saddle.

I had a similar problem remove the battery and push the gold coloured reset button. It worked on mine, You don't lose any info doing this. I got the advice from the Archos support phone number CC

Oh my gosh it worked! I had even called tech support at the company and they didn't even offer this solution. I even went as far as to buying a new battery at their suggestion. Thank you guys so much. You guys rock!

When turning on my Archos 504 I get the rocovery code 4 a then it says: Would you like to recovery it? I get three options:No-Repair-Format HD.No of them workt.The PC does not recognize the device either.

Disconnect the battery for few seconds, then press and hold the lock button for few seconds and, replace the battery and turn it on.

You can hold down the on/off button for 10 seconds to turn off the archos. then turn it on again. this can be used to turn off the archos when it is not responding. Is this what you want?

A better description of the reset button is that it is a round, gold color "bump" smaller than 1/4", almost flush with the circuit board. The solution by Guest was correct - push the button for 10 seconds then reinstall the battery and the unit should now work.

I don't seem to be getting any audio out of my archos. Everything else works but no audio. Would reset fix this? How do I reset?

Just used the reset button held for 10 seconds it works, thank you all.

I was using 504 with no broblem I took the battery of to try a new one and 504 would not work with none of the batteries, I then used the reset button and no ploblem after that
