What's the difference between digital switches and analog switches?

Hi Virginia, we went through the analog/ digital changeover
here recently and it is all fairly straight forward really. If your tv is digital then you need no converter box. If your tv is analog then you will need a cnverter box. Some tvs are dual system compliant so only need to be switched over
The difference a good quality aerial makes to digital broadcast reception is great, I currently use amplified indoor aerials and they are adequate for our two sets but a good extenal aerial would be far better.
In direct answer to your question I believe you need an amplified indooe digital aerial if you eant decent digital reception.
An old analog aerial may not do the jov ....but you can always try it before buying any new equipment

The LED LCD TV's came out in 2009. It already has a built in digital HD tuner.

Allen wants to know how to switch the TV between the built in analog tuner and built in digital tuner.

Switching between the two tuners is done by means of the "TV mode" switch on the remote control.

You will NOT be able to select analog channels if have NOT done analog tunning.

If you need to do a retuning then hit the "menu" button select "setup" then "plug and play" enter the default pin number 0000. When you are selecting the channel source to memorize make sure you select "digital and analog". This will then cause the TV to tune and memorize both the analog and digital channels.

Use a Hyper terminal, Hercules SETUP utility is user friendly for this. Attach a Serial cable to the unit (straight through cable not null modem) or use a USB to serial cable.

It sounds like the receiver is either failing or going into a thermal protection mode.

There should be NO reason why the input source (digital versus analog) should make a difference unless you play the digital sources obscenely louder than the analog ones.

If you suspect heat, you should be able to feel it.

Can you verify that the digital sources ONLY do this?

What type of video connection is on the graphics card?
Test the monitor on a different computer to determine if the monitor is functioning properly.

nope, digital is totally different sigle compair to analog, your vcr has to record in digital also. it the same way when one try to transfer movies from vcr to dvd which you cant do it unless you have converter to interpretate it. both has different formats or speak in different languages. hope that make sense to you

Look to see if your remote has a button with A/D on it. That is the button to press to switch back and forth between the analog and digital tuners.

I guessing that since **-one responded you've given up and returned the whole mess but what the hey.

A lot depends on the KVM you're using. There are some high end units that will match different sources to the monitor but most work best with matched input and output. Unless you's specifically states that it will convert analog to digital it won't. So if it's an analog KVM then both the computer video boards need to have an analog VGA jack and the monitor does too. If the KVM is ditital you need to have all the systems and monitor digital. Savi? The Monitor may support boath analog and digital input but NOT at the same time. You can't plug in two computers at the same time, that's what the KVM is for.

The bottom line here is that you typically need to run the least common de**minator to use a KVM. Also, if the computers have different frequency (resolution) out put and you hit the KVM switch then the monitor will freak out. Some monitors will auto-switch between frequencies but most don't (especially the cheapies).

There are adapters that will down convert digital to analog. If you're dead set on using the KVM with that old Dell then you may need to plug the down converter into the Acer Video Board but you'll loose the high resolution and sharp picture from the digital video. If it was me and I had to use the KVM, I'd get a cheap digital video card for the Dell or just run two monitors.

I run 5 systems on my desk, Three of which are older servers with analog video. They share an analog KVM with video and keyboard on the wall. The other two systems are current generation and share a KVM and 27" flat panel center desk. I also have a laptop that hangs on the other wall with a laser blue tooth keyboard on the other side of my desk. Now if my wife would only let me turn part of her craft studio into a server room.....

THE ONLY WAY THIS WILL CHANGE IS IF YOU HAVE A DIGITAL INPUT SOURCE CONNECTED to this mointor like HDMI AS THIS MOINTOR AUTOMATICALLY SENSES ANALOG SIGNALS AND DIGITAL INPUT SIGNALS if a digital signal is available it will switch over if a digital input singal is not available you will only be able to use the analog option
