Please help diagnose problem with Panasonic TH-50PC77U Plasma HDTV
6 month ago, I think back of TV was getting more hot then usual
About 2 months ago, TV randomly would repeat the same audio sound for few seconds (would sound like a robot noise), I would turn the TV off, restart it and the sound would clear up
About 2 weeks ago, I started to notice picture and sound distortion. Sometimes I would notice colored Horizontal lines with areas of the picture on the screen distorted / scrambled on the screen intermittently, would clear up for a little while, then picture would get distorted again; Sometimes when I would switch the channel, the picture from the last channel I was watching would continue to show on the new channel (static image from previously seen channel or show that would clear up in few seconds. Turning the power off would resolve the issue. Also, at times, I would see the message on the top half of the screen that your cable signal is interrupted or disconnected, please contact your cable provider (the same message that I would usually get if my actual cable service was actually out of service).
Now, I lost all picture /video and audio completely.
I can turn TV on and turn TV off. The power come on. I can access all the menu features. But no picture or audio.

it is possible that either the d-board is going bad or 1 of the c-boards. try to find and authorized panasonic servicer to help with the repair. we are authorized and in dallas texas. our business is Aces Tv Service.
It is very likely that cross talk does corrupt the link but for Panasonic to "blame" anyone else is not very professional. Anyway, if it worked for 6 months perhaps disconnecting the Foxtel IQ and reestablishing the Viera link with the Panasonic devices then reconnecting the Foxtel IQ for another 6 months of happy viewing. This is not a permanent solution but the alternative doesn't seem to be an option.
a smell from a plasma is usually a electrolytic capacitor leaking. Luckily, replacing capacitors is very easy. you can do it yourself if you have any skills at all, and if you can identify it.
just google what i am saying, you should be able to find the info you need to replace them.
Sorry to hear that. You could fix it with Best Buy or the warranty service repairman recommended by Panasonic.com I have a client that had used one of the panasonic repairman to fix the same problem that you have about a year ago,the TV is good ever seen. I am in the A/V installation business, my recommendation(Pioneer Kuro Plasma TV or Sharp LCD.)Very good track records from my clients. solutiondoct
The best way is to contact your service provider and ask them to trouble shoot guide you, there should be a way to reset or diagnose the receiver or if you prefer go back to the place you bought it and ask for a replacement, You should still have the manufacturer's warranty, check that as well.
