Remote frequency for my cable receiver seems to be the same as the remote frequency for my TV

Upgraded my cable service to cox contour and the remote is programmed to control my tv as well as the Contour receiver. When I attempt to control just the receiver it changes the input on the tv. I have tries different remotes with the same results. There is only on setting for the Receiver so I believe there is a conflict between the frequences

Hi Thor!
You have to select "Cable" on the universal remote on the cable to change the channels on the cable box.
And press "TV" on that remote to change or access TV Functions.
Or use only the TV remote only to change Inputs on the TV.
Good Luck,
JP

Thanks for the attempt but not that simple. I understand more than just the basic functions of the universal remote. To be more clear, when I press any button including the "cable" to control the receiver the TV input changes from HDMI 1 input to TV channel 1.
    I have tried the following:
    Reset the receiver
    Tried three brand new remotes
Tried asking Cox tech support, they said they had never in countered such an issue and believed the problem may be the frequencies may be conflicting btween the contour setting for the remote and the ir frequency for the TV.

My Cox HD/DVR controller will turn off but will not turn on my new HKAVR1700 using the AUX button on the Cox supplied URC-8820-Cisco remote.

This is a documented problem with the Harmon/Kardon AVR-1700 and the Cox remote. Here's how I solved it. On the HK1700, go to System Settings and turn on HDMI Link. This will allow your TV (if it has the feature) to put the HK in standby mode when you power down the TV. Go to your setting on your TV and turn on HDMI link, or equivalent. I have a Sony TV and the setting is called "Control For HDMI." Then, use code 0110 for your Cox remote. This code will only turn on the HK, not turn it off. BUT, the HDMI Link should put the HK into standby.

REMOTE OPERATION

Looks like a common frequency and coding problem. Try to keep the TV and Cable box far away and try the remote. If it works, then, escalate to Cable operator for providing a new box with remote or ask for a different brand of cable box.
