SOURCE: Nuvi 350 System Software Missing

Try this: Hold the power buuton down, you will see on the lower screen the word "Pre Booting - ". Keep holding the power button for about 60 second, then you will see on the lower screen "Booting".
This time, release power button; system will reboot and loading map... again.
I got the same problem, after research on the web. Nick 99990_0 had post this solution on (his Nuvi 660) but it work for my Nuvi 350 too. Good luck.

You have to power the unit via the mount by either using the cigar charger in the car or snap off the mount from the ball and socket and power it via the mains adapter.

SOURCE: Garmin NUVI 200W USB Port port pulled loose

The problem with repairing it yourself is that this is a surface mount connector. The solder pads are so small, it would be very difficult to solder with a standard soldering iron. Most likely you would apply too much solder and short out the connector. You really need to use a surface mount soldering/desoldering device and that can be fairly expensive. I have done this before but I have access to the right equipment.

Also, there is a possiblility that the printed circuit board tracks have been pulled up off the main board. If that has happened, there's a lot more work involved in fixing that. You might have to put in a different type of power jack and run wires from it to the main board.

If you're going to try to salvage the USB connector, I would remove it completely and install a new one. Over time, these connectors wear out, so you're better off removing the old one and putting a new one in. Again, this all depends upon whether the tracks on the board have been damaged or not.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance to you.

Good Luck,
- Jim
You also have to know how to take apart the Nuvi.

SOURCE: garmin gps won't charge while driving

If the Nuvi won't charge when connected to charge but charges on USB, then the charger port is faulty.

If the Nuvin does not charge at all , then the battery must be replaced.

Garmin nuvi 2555lm stops working abruptly with no warning. Will not charge or run off power cords. Completely dead. No sign of life at all.

You can try charging it with a high power usb wall charger with a compatible cable. If that does not work, then your battery is defective. You can buy a battery kit on Amazon for a reasonable price.

USB port on the backside of the Garmin Nuvi 265WT GPS broken. Can someone repair/replace the port?

The cost of repairs will be more than the cost of a new unit. A special tool is needed to open the unit to depress the multiple spring pressure locks all at the same time.

Garmin nuvi 2555lm battery want charge

A common problem with these units are loose/broken connections on the rear USB port. There are 5 pins on this port. If the power pins are loose/broken, the unit will not be able to charge the battery. The unit will not turn on because the battery is dead. Even if you plug in the charger, there battery will not charge.

The unit will not charge the battery if it won't turn on.

While you could have a bad battery, the Nuvi 25xx series is not that old and the date code on the battery is probably from 2010 or later.

If you plug in the charger, the green battery status indicator should go away or you should see a lightning bolt appear over the battery status indicator . If you don't see a change to the battery status indicator when you plug in the charger, then this confirms that the rear USB port is broken and not applying a charge to the battery.

How do I charge this garmin nuvi using my computer.

Just connect the satnav to your computer with the mini USB lead. The narrow end goes in the back of the satnav and the other end in the USB port of your computer. You need to have the computer turned on and if the satnav doesn't turn on automatically turn it on also. It will take approximately 8 hours to charge.

What does the cord look like that I reload my maps with, and can I charge my garmin on my computer?

The lead you use to connect your satnav to your computer for map updates etc is a mini USB lead. It has a USB plug at one end, to plug into your computer's USB port, and a mini USB plug at the other which plugs into the power connection on the back of your satnav. You can see a picture of the 2 plugs at http://www.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=http://img.diytrade.com/cdimg/569976/3881242/0/1183083272/USB_A_Plug_To_Mini_USB_8pin_Cable.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.diytrade.com/china/4/products/3052337/USB_A_Plug_To_Mini_USB_8pin_Cable.html&h=485&w=600&sz=65&tbnid=T8gEg2hWA2whcM:&tbnh=109&tbnw=135&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dmini%2BUSB%2Blead%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=mini+USB+lead&hl=en&usg=___nuT0o9B3Q-xMFQyUD-FLJTh-iw=&sa=X&ei=hL-pTYroGYaAhQfAhr3dCQ&ved=0CD4Q9QEwAw

You can charge the satnav with your computer by leaving it plugged in for approximately 8 hours. It would take 4 hours to charge if connected to your car or mains charger.

How do I recharge my garmin 1450

There are 3 ways to charge a garmin nuvi satnav.
  1. You can connect it to the cigarette lighter socket of a car with the charger lead that came with it. This method takes about 4 hours to fully charge it.
  2. You can charge it with a mains charger which has to be bought seperately at shops that sell garmin satnavs. This also takes about 4 hours to charge.
  3. You can connect it to the USB port of your computer with a mini USB lead. Turn on the computer and the satnav. This method takes about 8 hours to charge fully.

My Nuvi 200 will not charge and the USB port

My condolences. I would suggest you plug the unit in to your computer's USB port using an appropriate data cable (in case you no longer have the Garmin data cable, there are lots of devices, including cameras, that use such a cable with the large USB plug at one end and the mini-USB at the other). That would give you a handle on where the fault lies -- in the auto charger cable itself vs the nuvi's socket. If the nuvi charges from your computer, you're halfway home; if not, I suspect the cost of repairing the nuvi's USB jack could exceed the cost of a replacement unit.

My Garmin Nuvi doesnt charge

I've received many units for repair where the customer thougth that the battery was bad because the unit would not turn on or stay on long.

The problem was really caused by broken connections on the mini-USB jack. Please see this link for more info, specifically look at the section dealing with the mini-USB connector.

Garmin nuvi 260w not operating while plugged in

Based on your description, you are doing it right. You said....
"when i connect it to the car charger it shows the computer sysmbol and starts charging. there is no other usb port on the device"
That is correct. It takes about 2-3 hours to fully charge a low battery.
There is only a mini USB port on a 260.
It's used for charging and downloading updates of software or maps.
