Your Tuner might be faulty but before replacing it there's also 1 thing to be checked.
You need to bring your unit to repair to checked the band switch I.C. before replacing the tuner.
Tuner is divided into 3 bands (VL,VH,UHF) since you have no reception on the lower channels, it seems that your VL bands is faulty that might be cause by defective tuner or Band switch I.C. located near your tuner.
This problems, the Tuner board is also dead, sometimes both power board and the Tuner board are dead.Replaced the Tuner board, will solved this problems.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish Tuner board for the replacement.
You can replace the whole tuner if you are proficient with soldering. I would try PartStore.com first and you usually order by model number here. If the model is listed you can scroll through the parts available to see if the tuner is shown. I have worked with them and have had very good service and fair prices. Good luck.
Sometimes you can replace the rf connector by resoldering it with a replacement rf. You will have to remove the tuner to do this. The big question is did you crack the tuner board or the board the tuner is connected to. You will really have to examine these. In most of my cases a successful replacement rf connector will fix.
whats wrong with the old tuner? did the connector break? depending on the damage the connector can be replaced to replace the tuner right out i would call a medium difficult level. it invovles removeing the signal board the board with the tuner on it simply unsoldering and replacings care should be taken not damage surface mounted components. at the shop it is possible we repair these tuner which involves opening the can tuner and soldering a new connector to the can of the tuner.
i have noticed that the new tuners are missing a few pins. i believe that it will work. what is the exact make and model of the set there is a tiny printing of the model above the model # i has d52w15...yx....something. you need this to cross reference the tuner. let me know and i will cross ref it
Robert,
Replacing the "F" connector is usually all that's needed unless the tuner board is cracked. You could remove the tuner - send it in for repair and re-install it... It would clearly save a few bucks!
Any shop should be able to do that one easy enough... Around here we charge $40.00 including the part to replace the "F" connector and there are shops that charge even less...
