Paper feed motor problem • LOCK ALM signal remains high for 1 s, 1 s after the paper feed motor has turned on.
Causes
Poor contact in the paper feed motor connector terminals. Defective paper feed motor rotation control circuit. Defective drive transmission system.
Remedy
Reinsert the connector. Also check for continuity within the connector cable. If none, remedy or replace the cable. Replace the paper feed motor. Check if the rollers and gears rotate smoothly. If not, grease the bushings and gears. Check for broken gears and replace if any.

sounds like the gearing is out of sync. When you remove debris did you force any of the geared rods? some times if a printer has been jammed by debris i.e. your paper clip, the gearing gets out of sync as gears jump teeth. In the past I've rectified this problem by rotating gearing manually. Its a hit and miss method. try it " WITH NO POWER " to the printer. Put a sheet of paper in tray and rotate gearing by hand and watch closely all movement, pick up rollers, paper feed, head movement path etc. you'll get a feel for it .
once you get paper feeding manually try it with power.
good luck.
1. Push the paper far inside / use the priority tray.
2. Check for deterioration of the rubber on the main pickup roller (Replace if needed).
3. Ensure that the main paper pickup roller (view inside the printer from the priority input slot - use a torchlight) is rotating when print command is given / 'check' button is pressed after the error message.
4. The printer will make three attempts, one after the other, to pickup the paper (you should be able to hear the sound of main motor and gear train rotating - if no sound is heard the main motor / gear train is bad).
5. If the paper pickup roller does not rotate - a component in the gear train needs attention / replacement.
6. The gear train is behind the formatter inside the right side cover.
7. Service manual can be downloaded free on the net.
A C2500 Code is as follows (direct from tech manual.)
Paper feed motor problem.
Poor contact in the paper feed motor connector terminals. Defective paper feed motor rotation control circuit. Defective drive transmission system.
Solutions:
Reinsert the connector. Also check for continuity within the connector cable. If none, remedy or replace the cable. Replace the paper feed motor. Check if the rollers and gears rotate smoothly. If not, grease the bushings and gears. Check for broken gears and replace if any.
Most of the time it is the motor if you power the unit down and unplug it. Wait 30 seconds power it back up and it should (key word) bypass the broken cassette. To find out if it is the motor you can switch the motors with cassette 1 and 2 they are the same.
Frequent jams are because either scanner picks up more than one paper or does not pickup at all. If scanner picks up more than one paper, then paper is sticky. If the paper is thin, it can pick up two at a time. Fan the papers so that they are not sticky.
Paper at the point of entry into the scanner must be crisp. If folded or 'dog-eared' trim it. Rotate the paper if any other side is crisp, roate the image later.
Clean all the rollers thoroughly, the pickup roller, retard roller and other rollers in the scanner. One can rotate the inner rollers and clean totally, not just waht is seeable area. If the rubber is worn out, it must be replaced. TRy a single page to check if the rubber is okay. Jarring noise is because the motor is 'stopped' and cant rotate because paper is stuck. This can affect motor/inner parts, but is designed for normal use.
That means , second BTR is not in contact with transfer belt. Open front door and pull out paper transport and check that is everything OK with black roll and her assembly.Check sensors for dirt, and gears for damage. If You have used one ,replace it.
Hi, You have the right idea of cleaning the rubber rollers behind the tray, (if the paper will feed through once then we can eliminate the idea of a paper jam)unfortunantly, when the rollers get too worn out then cleaning is not effective. I work on alot of Brother 5140 printers which look very similar to this model, and we pull out the tray, take the pick roller off of the printer, pull off the rubber part of the roller and rotate it 180 degrees from it former position which gives it a new area of wear. Usually that's a pretty good fix, and it isn't too hard to do, just make sure to note how it was put together before taking it apart. Good luck.
